🛑💩 How to Properly Decommission an Abandoned Septic Tank 💩🛑
Thinking of building, selling, or switching to city sewer? If you’ve got an old septic tank on the property, it must be safely decommissioned to avoid future hazards!
Here’s how it’s done right ✅:
1️⃣ Pump & Clean – All liquid and sludge must be professionally pumped out and properly disposed of. No shortcuts here.
2️⃣ Crush or Remove – Depending on the tank material, it’s either removed completely or collapsed in place.
3️⃣ Fill Safely – The void is filled with clean sand, gravel, or flowable fill to prevent collapse or sinkholes.
4️⃣ Permit & Inspection – Most municipalities require permits and final inspection. Always check your local codes.
5️⃣ Document It – Keep records of the decommissioning for future buyers or property improvements.
❌ Don’t just leave it buried and forgotten.
✅ Do it safely, do it legally, and avoid serious future risks!
