Here’s what is… ⬇️

To be noticed in today’s marketing landscape is harder than ever.

Because let’s be honest…people have cheaper and more convenient options basically banging down their front door and body tackling them into submission.

Which means that for small business owners, it’s hard out here for a pimp.

If you sell a RESULT, a SERVICE, or a PROCESS…

You’re not just selling what you DO anymore, you’re selling who you ARE.

AKA: the rules of engagement are changing.

What isn’t working:
- Faceless, regurgitated clickbait
- Stuffy, overgeneralized messaging
- Being afraid to get to know your audience
- “Build it and they will come”

What IS working:
- Real, vulnerable story sharing
- Putting every ounce of your personality in your message, website, emails, videos, etc.
- Building it WITH your audience
- Community-based, organic marketing to warm audiences

When you show up and show confidence by being visible, transparent, human, and unafraid of your own personality, your customers feed off that energy.

You offer something valuable they can’t get from Jeff Bezos: genuine connection.

Because QUICK POLL: when was the last time you signed up for a newsletter, followed someone on social media, or clicked on a website because you thought that person explained what they did reeeeeally well?

I’m willing to bet, um, never (?).

WHAT they do isn’t compelling enough in and of itself to make you invest your time and money in someone.

So why would it be compelling enough to make someone invest in you?

We don’t want to see the WHAT anymore. We want to see the HOW:

HOW they do it.
HOW they connect.
HOW they mess up.
HOW they succeed.
HOW they transform.
HOW they support.
HOW they connect.

This is the time to go all in on being a HOW person.

And the best news?

If you need advice, pep talks, hand holding, and hyping in that process, you’re in exactly the right place.

- Working against natural gifts/talents/strengths

Here’s something they don’t tell you when you start a business…

In a constant flood of trends that seem to be “working” for everyone else, authenticity is your single greatest asset.

But finding that “authentic” version of yourself isn’t always the effortless, stress-free, joyful, skipping-through-flowery-fields journey we’re sold in the romanticized self-actualization fairytales.

Sometimes it looks like getting overwhelmed and quitting.

Sometimes it looks like beating ourselves up.

Sometimes it looks like putting the important stuff on the back burner.

Sometimes it looks like pushing ourselves into a mold we don’t fit in.

ESPECIALLY here in places where comparison and all the icky feelings that go along with it are so easy to get lost in (*guilty* 🙋🏼‍♀️).

And suddenly you find yourself in a brand that no longer feels good…

Because this process is HARD, vulnerable work.

But let me drop a little nugget of hope here…

I cannot believe I’m about to share this…

But I am truly terrible at practicing what I preach.

As a brand designer who specializes in setting other business owners up for ease…

It’s pretty ironic that I’m not great at creating it for myself.

Social media templates? “But I’m an ARTIST, how could I use the same design AGAIN?!”
Newsletter? On its 5th (or was it 50th?) iteration.
Email campaigns? Several collecting dust as we speak.

Let’s just say I have not yet basked in the fully realized brand glow I’ve helped many of my clients experience.

On top of that, one of my core values is “Authentic Embodiment” and yet…

I’ve found myself feeling embarrassed to talk about the MESSY reality of running my own business and overcoming my own blocks.

Rich, right?

Well today, I’m calling myself out because the truth is: seeing your own path clearly is hard, no matter who you are.

But guess what?

Showing up imperfectly is not only cool. It’s essential.

It’s NATURAL to overcomplicate and overthink things that are personal to us.

It’s NATURAL to feel like we’re not ready to ask for help, make the investment, or put ourselves out there.

But here’s what you may not know:

Your audience…NEEDS that holistic version of you.

Not just the polished brand, but the IN PROGRESS version of who you are.

Because they’re tired of being sold on the destination alone. They are craving being seen and understood IN THE STRUGGLE.

They want to come along with you while you figure it out.

They want a brand that validates their own humanness.

And in order to do that, you have to take up space exactly as you are.
