Help us decide! 🤩🏡

We’re getting closer to ordering kitchen cabinets for the Hickory Roots Creek House, and we’re having a hard time choosing a color!

The island base cabinets will be Fern Green, but we’re torn between three options for the rest of the kitchen.

🤎 1 – Dark Wood
🤎 2 – Natural Wood
🤍 3 – White Shaker

We love all three for different reasons, so we want to hear what YOU think!

EDIT TO ADD: A little more detail to help you envision the finished kitchen! There is a large window above the kitchen sink. The walls will be an off white neutral color. The flooring will be a light neutral tile, likely a cream. The perimeter countertops will be white Carrara quartz, and the backsplash will be a light, neutral color.

If we go with white cabinets, we’re thinking a butcher block countertop on the green island for an extra pop of warmth! If we choose either wood cabinet option, the island will have the same white Carrara quartz as the rest of the kitchen.

A little Sunday excitement at the Creek House! 🏡🌿

We have our first off-market showing today — before the renovation is even complete! 👀

✨ Another Month of Progress at Hickory Roots Creek House! 🏡🌿

Just over a month ago, we shared the first 30 days of exterior progress at the Creek House — along with a little list of what was coming next.

Well… that list is officially complete! 😍

Since our last update:

✔️ All 28 new black windows have been installed
✔️ Custom cedar porch posts are complete
✔️ The new cedar porch ceiling is finished
✔️ Custom cedar shutters have been added
✔️ Cedar gable accents are in place
✔️ New exterior lighting has been installed
✔️ And lots of little finishing details have brought the whole exterior together

Seeing the cedar against the rich green exterior and black windows is exactly what we envisioned when we first started planning this transformation. We wanted to give this late-1950s home a fresh new look without taking away the charm and character that made it special to begin with — and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s coming together. 🤎🌿

The last photo shows where we started — and what a difference a couple of months can make!

One of our favorite parts of this project has been the support from the local community. 🥰 This is a moderately traveled road, and we know this house is familiar to many who pass by regularly. We’ve loved all the honks, waves, and thumbs-ups as the transformation has taken shape. It means so much to know people are enjoying watching the Creek House transformation along with us! 🏡🌿

With so much of the exterior now complete, our attention is turning to the next stages of the Creek House renovation. There’s still plenty happening behind the scenes, and we can’t wait to share more as it comes together.

✨ 30 Days of Exterior Progress at Hickory Roots Creek House! 🏡🌿

Just one month ago, we began restoring this special late-1950s home in Marriottsville. While there’s still plenty of work ahead, it’s exciting to look back and see how much the exterior has already changed. It’s already starting to look like our mock up! 😍

In the first 30 days we’ve completed:
✔️ Brand-new roof
✔️ Exterior painted in its new rich green color
✔️ Black trim, gutters, and downspouts
✔️ Foundation painted
✔️ New basement windows installed

It’s amazing how these improvements can completely transform the look and feel of a home while still honoring its original character.

Coming next:
🪟 Installation of 28 new black windows on the main and upper levels
🌲 Custom cedar porch posts and a cedar porch ceiling
🌲 Cedar shutters and gable accents
💡 New exterior lighting and the finishing details that will bring the entire vision together

✨ We’re excited to share our newest restoration project—Hickory Roots Creek House!

A charming home tucked away in Marriottsville, surrounded by woods and a peaceful little creek that winds through the property.

Built in the late 1950s and lovingly cared for by one family, this home has decades of history within its walls. Our goal is to thoughtfully restore it while preserving the original charm and character that make homes like this so special.

The restoration will be completed by BK Improvements LLC, our family-owned construction company, with a focus on quality craftsmanship and preserving the home’s original character.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing the renovation journey—from the challenges to the transformations—as we carefully restore this special home while honoring its history.

SOLD! 🌲✨ Our beloved Aframe in Marriottsville officially closed on Wednesday!

For those who may not be aware, we completely renovated the Aframe in 2023 after it had sat vacant for many years. What started as a forgotten property with tons of character became a true labor of love for our family. We poured our hearts into preserving its original 1973 mid-century charm while incorporating modern conveniences, and we are so proud of how the design and transformation turned out. ❤️

Over the past few years, the home grew into a top-performing Airbnb (top 1%!) with over 100 five-star reviews, and we were incredibly honored to share the space with so many guests.

We listed the property at $500,000, received multiple offers, and ultimately sold for $530,000! We are beyond grateful for all of the interest and excited for the new owners to continue its legacy.

Now… we’re looking for our next renovation project! 👀
