Thank you to Janice Tidwell Allen!
She reached out with photos of her husband's great grandfather, DR. Alva Allen. Per Janice, “The 1910 census lists him as living in Rib Lake, WI. Evidently he only lived there a few years. We have a couple of pictures of him in his buggy.”

Not sure exactly which part of town they were taken in, but they are great shots!

The founder of the Rib Lake Historical Society, Robert “Bob” Rusch, passed away last Sunday. Bob’s passion for history -especially the history of the Taylor County area- was evident. He will be missed!

Happy Holidays, everyone!

In this photo,
c. 1928 - a worker from the Lamberty jobber camp walks between the rails of the Rib Lake Lumber Co. logging railroad -in the town of Corning (Lincoln Co., WI). But for the prior cutting of scattered white pine, the forest is virgin; note a preponderence of hemlock trees.

Can you name the object?
This item was recently found in the woods in and around Rib Lake. It appears to have been for logging. But, we are unsure what it is, and unsure what it was used for. There are two of these items and they have some additional apparatus that go with them. So, do you know? 😃
If so (or, if you have a guess!), please comment below!
