John Taylor: San Juan Capistrano City Council

John Taylor: San Juan Capistrano City Council San Juan Capistrano, City Coincilman, John Taylor San Juan Capistrano is experiencing a renaissance. Work to find solutions to our downtown parking problems.

When I began my term on city council four years ago, our downtown was in a recession. Thanks to our revitalization efforts, dozens of new businesses have opened and our city is once again thriving. As a businessman, I approach government with the same principles as running a successful company. As a 25-year resident of the Los Rios District, I also embrace our small town atmosphere and historic he

ritage. I will continue to:

Practice fiscal responsibility – we increased our emergency cash reserve from 8% in 2010 to a healthy 50% today. Run an efficient staff —we reduced employees from 109 to 87, saving thousands of dollars; annual audits rated excellent. Keep our city safe —we increased positions in the Sheriff’s Department resulting in the lowest crime rates in years. Protect our water supply —we obtained $5 million in state grants to upgrade our Groundwater Recovery Plant, producing nearly half the city’s water from our own wells —water that we don’t have to buy from Metropolitan Water District! Manage traffic —work with other agencies to proactively mitigate traffic issues. I am a leader for positive change, and will continue to steer a course for good government while maintaining respect for others.

Last week, the multi-year process to transition the City’s water and sewer utility to Santa Margarita Water District was finalized and a celebration was held to commemorate the achievement. Importantly, management of the City’s water utility services by a specialized water agency will help to ensure the long-term reliability of water service to the City’s customers. Additionally, Santa Margarita Water District plans to invest $25 million into overall system improvements and optimization of the Ground Water Recovery Plant, located at City Hall. Many thanks to all who have had a hand in achieving this milestone accomplishment.

The City Council gave a proclamation this week in honor of Pancreatic Awareness Month. Wear purple on Nov. 18th to support the fight against this deadly disease and bring awareness to early diagnosis.

Twenty years ago this morning as I put on my shoes while watching the morning news, I like millions of Americans stepped into a new world. We joined an involuntary fraternity that would shape our futures and those of our descendants.

The heartless reach of hate had reached our shores and in our core we knew it. We would have to react, and we have. With our brave Men and Women of the Armed Forces and with all the treasures of our hard work, we have strived to make a better world. But the strength of evil and hatred are strong and resilient and do not fall easily or quickly.
We as a people cannot do this on our own. We have to reach upward to our Devine Father to accomplish what we have struggled in vain for twenty years to vanquish.

Love and good will always prevail, always. Keep up the good work, keep being kind, keep praying for our country and our world.
