A gentle plea from the front of the aisle: go unplugged.

I know the photos matter to you — they matter to me too, which is why I ask. When thirty guests hold up phones during the processional, your photographer gets a sea of screens instead of a sea of faces. And that moment your partner sees you? It should be your partner’s eyes meeting yours, not your best man’s iPhone.

You can always have a photo minute after the ceremony. Nobody will feel deprived. They’ll feel present.

Trust me — your guests will thank you, your photographer will thank you, and your wedding album will thank you.

Have you thought about an unplugged ceremony, or are you letting phones roam free?

I've officiated hundreds of ceremonies, and I can tell you exactly which ones made the couples tear up and which ones didn't.

It's never the big dramatic moments. It's the small, specific ones.

The groom who quoted his bride's favorite taco order. The bride who thanked her husband for warming up her car every winter morning. The couple who both cried during the vows and both blamed allergies.

Your vows don't need to be poetry. They need to be true. One concrete memory, one real promise — that's what lands.

So here's my advice: write the promise you can actually keep, and let the wedding planner handle the poetry.

What's one small, true thing you'd put in your vows?

Big news from my little corner of the internet: my website just got a full makeover. Same me, same ceremonies, fresh new look.

The best part is who you'll meet when you stop by. Savannah is my new chat assistant, and she's on duty around the clock. She can answer your questions, tell you if I'm already booked on your date, and make sure your message lands right in my hands. She's quick, she's friendly, and she has a few opinions about me that I did not approve.

Planning a wedding, or know someone who is? Come say hello:

Relaxed, personal wedding ceremonies, written around the two of you.

3 fall ceremony details your guests will actually remember 🍂

The flower girl stealing the show. That sunset moment — Savannah golden light through the Spanish moss. The quiet walk away together as the party begins behind them.

Nobody remembers the chair covers. They remember how it felt.

What's one detail from a wedding you've been to that stuck with you?

Fall couples, here's something nobody tells you until it's too late: in October, the sun checks out early.

That 5:30 ceremony you're picturing in golden light? By the time you're saying your vows, your photographer may be fighting dusk. Move it up to 4:00 or 4:30 and you get that warm, low autumn light for the whole ceremony — and your guests actually get to enjoy cocktail hour before dark.

It's one of those tiny decisions that changes how the whole evening feels. Earlier ceremony, softer light, happier photographer, warmer photos.

Planning a fall wedding? What time are you thinking — and have you checked sunset for your date yet?

5 questions to ask ANY officiant before you book: 1) Will you help us write the ceremony, or just show up and read? 2) How do you handle nerves, delays, surprises? 3) Can we personalize vows and rituals? 4) Will you coordinate with our planner/photographer? 5) What do your past couples say? The answers tell you everything. (For the record — I love these questions. Bring them. 🤍)

The trend I'm loving most right now: unplugged ceremonies. 📵 No phones in the aisle. No guest leaning out to block your photographer's shot of the first kiss. Just people, present. Pro tip: have your officiant make the announcement — guests actually listen to us. 😉
