We owe a lot of gratitude to Vi Hilbert for the work she did in her lifetime ✨

Vi “taqʷšəblu” Hilbert was born on this day in 1918. A member of the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, she dedicated her life to preserving the Lushootseed language and stories. Vi attended 15 different schools growing up and was banned from speaking Lushootseed at Chemawa, an Indian boarding school in Oregon. But Vi later devoted her life to revitalizing the language she learned from her parents.

Following her passing in 2008, Hilbert was featured in the 2012 Legacy Washington exhibit, "We're Still Here: The Survival of Washington Indians." Learn more about her work and hear the Lushootseed language (dxʷləšucid) at Legacy Washington's exhibit page: https://www2.sos.wa.gov/legacy/werestillhere/language.aspx

Looking back ✨a glance back at some the moments from Red Eagle Soaring's trip to Montana this summer for the 150th Anniversary of the Little Bighorn Film Festival and battlefield events. RES students attended the battlefield Victory Day events, performed an opening at the red carpet kickoff celebration, also joined by UNEA, and got to see one of their films in the shorts program of the festival!
