SEDONA GUIDE — Sedona has no commercial airport, so most people fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor and drive up — about 120 miles, roughly two hours. Flagstaff is closer at about 45 minutes if you're coming from the north. No car? Groome Transportation runs a shuttle from the Phoenix airport. Either way, rent a car once you're here — most trailheads need one.

The Bell Rock Pathway is easy and mostly flat, so it's great for families and a good first hike; you can scramble up the lower slopes for a bigger view. It's also one of Sedona's four main vortex sites. Bring a Red Rock Pass to park.

Make it a half-day and pair it with Jerome up the hill.

Highway 89A north follows the creek up through Oak Creek Canyon: pull off at Slide Rock State Park for the natural water slides, then climb the switchbacks toward Flagstaff for the overlooks. Best color in the fall.
