It was a great day for getting outside chores done before the snow comes. Thankful and blessed. It’s taking longer than expected but that’s the Sisu it requires for this project

Jim trying to get the crumbling steps rebuilt before it gets too cold. We had frost this weekend but blessed with beautiful sunny days to work. Another weekend to finish them

With all our furniture for the sanctuary laying around in the basement I decided to put some of it to use temporarily while trying to do some overnights during the renovation

There were so many ideas but I landed on upcycling the pulpit into a functional high low desk. It’s going to get finished with wheels so I can move it anywhere

Finally back at the Sanctuary and moving into renovation mode. Never had a chance to go camping and we need accommodations while pulling overnights to get things done. I figured this would keep some of the dust off our sleeping quarter. The excitement of it all was rekindled today after a 6 week absence. Our other business explodes this time of year and it was impossible to get here. It makes for an anxious and discouraging feeling. I’ve wrestled with weather this is the right thing at the right time in my life and I was reassured by just being there and having my parents visit and hear what we are trying to do this weekend. God has great plans for me and all those that this place will touch. Let the excitement begin…

We had a wonderful visit from our friends Gary and Helen today. Gary is a Navy veteran and he and his wife Helen have been a great support to us.

Trauma is not exclusive to veterans. It occurs in varying degrees to each and every one of us. How we respond and process that trauma can affect our relationships and our nervous systems. To some degree, we are products of the environments we have lived in and learned from. Having a family mediator that is trauma informed can bring healing and insight to help make recovery successful and interrupt unhealthy and cyclical patterns that destroy relationships and homes. The Sisu Sanctuary aims to create a safe and supportive environment where healing can begin.

If you resonate with the intentions of our mission and you want to support what we are doing, we would love to hear from you, give you a tour and share our goals. We are working on our 501c3 application to build a foundation to offset costs for families to stay here. Please contact us at

We are finally done with the labor of the brush pile removal. It took 7 full days of both of us working and overflowing trailer loads to clear this area to build a Sauna garden and outdoor patio for the Sisu Sanctuary. It definitely took Sisu to get through it. Our reward is the accomplishment. We are excited for the next phase of construction and getting closer to sharing this with families who are needing a healthy and healing place to learn, connect and grow

Moving day for groundhogs. I hated destroying any creatures home but it was a necessary evil. We’ll see if there’s a hole there next time we come. If it does come back, what should I do?

Whew! This was hopefully the last of the brush pile. More landscaping to be done, but this was the grunt work before the fun. I love to plan and create order. We continue to work on maintenance projects while waiting for the next stage of funding before the real construction begins. In the meantime we plan and prepare and gather supplies. I’m learning to be thankful for the pace as I couldn’t keep up with life’s other demands if it was going any faster. I prayed for patience and look what I got 🙃
