August HMA Meeting, Tuesday, August 12, 8:30am. Location TBA

07/28/2014

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday the county commission will hear a presentation first on Witham Field's airport-noise abatement procedures--which have proven very successful and there's more good news to share about the latest procedures being implemented--and then they'll hear from Customs.

There's good news there, too.

A business report prepared by airport staff shows that the construction of the entire project will now be covered with an 80/20 grant. (At one time it was only a 50/50 grant). The costs are shared by FDOT and the Airport Enterprise Funds. No tax dollars are in play.

Also, airport staff studied independent, current projections of how Customs will perform. The good news is, based on these numbers, the facility shows no loss, grossing $5,000 in the first year, $89,000 in the second year and more than $150,000 in the third year.

Despite this, the Martin Marine-Aviation Alliance--a group of 18 marine and aviation businesses supporting Customs that had pledged to give $50,000 per year for three years in the event of any operating shortfalls--will still offer those funds to the Airport Enterprise Fund.

This is an example of a good project made even better. Tourism partners, please send a representative from y our property to this meeting, it Is very important that our faces are there. The BOCC often think that if we are not there in support that we must not care.

Thanks so much.
