We have been reading through your artist residency submissions, and are so incredibly moved. There’s a story sometimes told about the desert in summer: that it is a place to avoid, to outlast. But those of us who have stayed know something different. Summer is when the desert reveals itself in its wildest, truest form. And to read your words—your understanding of what it means to sink into a place like this, in a season like this… well it makes us know we have found our people.

For everyone who applied: thank you. We will be in touch in the coming week. We cannot wait to share what these artists make here, in this light, in this heat, under these summer skies.

To our guests: you inspire us.

To the 80-somethings who had never been to the desert before but decided to come and explore. You give us hope for the new places and hobbies we might find someday that we don’t even know about yet.

To the new parents that brought their baby with them even though that first trip postpartum felt scary. You remind us that being parents doesn’t mean we stop living for ourselves too.

To the solo traveler that brought just a guitar. You inspire us to keep creating, and to not wait for anyone else to do it.

We are so lucky to host you all. Thank you for trusting us for so many firsts. 🌵🧡

Creating something new sometimes feels like the only thing worth sharing, so we stop ourselves from coming on here when it feels like we’re in maintenance mode. But, so much of our time and energy goes into keeping things just as they are, so… here are some of those places. Just as they are in the magic of spring in the desert. (swipe through for the tiniest baby quail we’ve ever seen!!!)🌵🌸🐤✨

The land is waking up, and so are our gardens. We call this growing season, not just for the plants, but for us too. It’s when we feel most creative. Watching prickly pear paddles duplicate overnight while mesquite trees flush bright green, and vines stretch a little further all while knowing the desert will soon be covered in blooms… well, it’s the best. 🌵🌸 (videos at the end are from this week for current bloom status if you’re visiting soon!)

Our inbox has been full of wedding dreams lately, so we wanted to share a few of the beautiful celebrations that have taken place here at the inn. 🌵🤍

It’s such an honor to witness these moments—quiet vows under the saguaros, long rooftop dinners with everyone you love, slow and intimate celebrations immersed in nature.

If you’re dreaming up something in the desert, we’d love to hear about it. All kinds of love are welcome here.

As the year winds down, we’re thinking about all the mornings, swims, conversations, and quiet nights that happened here. The workshops and retreats. The weddings and engagements. The artist residency!

Thank you for making this place feel alive in all the right ways.
Wishing you a gentle ending and a meaningful beginning. ✨

From when we first found the inn in its abandoned state, the great horned owls have always been a grounding presence here. The current owl couple joined in on our artist residency and earth building workshop… and it’s time for them to get a couple name.

We asked our daughter, Flora, what she thought the owl’s name should be and without missing a beat she said, “Susan.” Here are a few of our favorite suggestions (vote for your favorite!)

We’d been looking for some hope in what often feels like a dark world these days. The week of the JTH Artist Residency here at the inn last month was a moment that we found some. Art, nature, new friends… and a reminder that the slow days spent mostly outside always bring us back.

The creative energy was undeniable. It moved through every room, every sunrise, every conversation. Each day unfolded with fresh inspiration, not just for us, but for the artists in residence who brought their vision and spirit to the inn.

Meet the artists (and follow along with their journeys):

Head to our blog for a full recap of the week and more of the works created. And a special thank you to for keeping us all hydrated throughout the week, to (our amazing innkeeper) for helping to make this special week happen, to for the incredible photography, and for offering up wood fired pizza making skills.
