Poseidon is outside, but curious about Amphitrite, who I have just now moved to the inside portion of the aviary. They have not yet met.

So far he has sent her a romantic note, asked me to adjust the lighting and has been preening his feathers outside. Would music be too much?? Asking for a friend.

We’ve been waiting for Poseidon’s tail feathers to fall off in his annual molting before introducing him to his new girlfriend Amphitrite. We are pretty sure he’ll be more gentlemanly once mating season is over. We can hope so, anyway.

It’s been a long wait, but It finally happened!!! He’s dropped his feathers.

We think Poseidon looks pretty handsome even without his plume. What do you think? Is he ready to meet his new girl?

Introducing Amphitrite! It might be the obvious choice as the mate of Poseidon, but we liked her story and wanted her to have a match as an equal. Amphitrite made Poseidon work to win her favor and she was independently already associated with the sea. Her nickname will be Drina, which was Queen Victoria’s childhood name since people associate the Victorian era as a time when peacocks came into favor in pop culture. Thank you for all the great suggestions, including this one!!! It was a hard choice. But this morning, she told me she liked it! Or at least I like to think she did.

Welcome to this beautiful girl! Our peacock Poseidon had a close friend in a guinea hen who, unfortunately, passed not too long ago. I promised I’d get him a new companion and thanks to Julie Butler of Morning Beckons Farm, I found one!

Shout out to Jen Kramer Lutton, who came along to pick her up in what we have long called our “Lucy and Ethel” farm adventures.

We lost the matriarch of our flock, Juniper. She passed gently, just as she had lived. I’m heartbroken.

Here’s the story of how she came to us with her flock mate Juliette in 2015 as the spark of our whole sheep adventure.

You can’t keep them forever, but sometimes you truly wish you could.

That’s Jo-Erl Farm’s namesake, my father Earl Parker driving the Grange float in Uxbridge’s 250th anniversary parade in 1977.

We still use that tractor. My father always said, “Fords last.” He wasn’t wrong.

Seeing this pic really reminds me of my Dad’s gentle easy, civic-minded manner. I miss him. They really don’t make them like him anymore.
