Weather Safety Update ⚠️

For the safety of our owners, guests, and staff, The Colony's pool and the Virginia Beach oceanfront beaches are temporarily closed due to lightning and storms in the area.

Even if the weather appears to improve, we follow the 30/30 Lightning Safety Rule, which means the pool will remain closed until 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike or clap of thunder. If additional lightning or thunder occurs, the 30-minute timer starts over.

Please remember:

Do not enter the ocean or remain on the beach during thunderstorms.
The pool will reopen as soon as conditions are safe.
Continue to monitor the weather, as conditions can change quickly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we put safety first. We know everyone is eager to get back to enjoying the beach and pool, and we'll reopen them as soon as it's safe to do so.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe, and we hope you continue to enjoy your stay at The Colony Resort.

🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from all of us at The Colony! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms that have united Americans since July 4, 1776. This year is especially meaningful as we continue the celebration of America's Semiquincentennial (250th Anniversary), commemorating 250 years of our nation's history, resilience, and spirit.

Here at The Colony, we're honored to be celebrating a milestone of our own. This year marks 50 years of welcoming families to the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Since opening our doors in 1976—the same year America celebrated its Bicentennial—The Colony has been a place where generations have gathered to create traditions, laughter, and lifelong memories.

As fireworks light up the sky tonight, we celebrate not only our country's remarkable journey but also the thousands of families who have made The Colony part of their own story over the past five decades.

Here's to freedom, family, and 50 years of unforgettable vacations.

The sunshine is calling, but don't let the hot sand catch you by surprise! On days like today, sand temperatures can reach 130°–150°F, so be sure to wear sandals or water shoes when heading to and from the beach.

Keep Your Little Beachgoers Safe!

If you're staying with us and have children, be sure to stop by the Front Desk to pick up a FREE Find-A-Kid safety wristband for each child in your group.

Our bright neon blue wristbands feature The Colony's information and are part of the Virginia Beach Find-A-Kid Program. Should your little one become separated from you while enjoying the beach or boardwalk, the wristband helps first responders and local businesses reunite your family as quickly as possible.

This program is:

A little extra peace of mind during your vacation

4th of July Celebration & Traffic Alert!

Planning to celebrate Independence Day at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront? Here's what you need to know!

Oceanfront Fireworks: 9:30 PM
Launched from a barge near 24th Street
Live entertainment begins at 7:30 PM at the 17th, 24th, and 31st Street Parks.

Looking for another great option? Mount Trashmore Park will also host a July 4th celebration beginning at 5:00 PM, with live entertainment at 6:00 PM and fireworks at 9:30 PM.

🚗 Plan Ahead
• Arrive early—large crowds and heavy traffic are expected all day.
• Traffic restrictions and detours may begin around 7:00 PM.
• Atlantic Avenue between 15th and 25th Streets will temporarily close after the fireworks to allow pedestrians to exit safely.

Whether you're spending the evening on the beach or around town, we wish everyone a safe, fun, and memorable Fourth of July! 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙
