Wheatland Spring is a family owned and operated estate brewery on a 30 acre working farm in Virginia, an hour west of Washington, DC.

We grow grains, herbs, produce, capture wild yeast, use our well water, and host honey bee hives for the sole purpose of offering the highest quality beer we’re capable of making. We call our approach “Farming for Fermentation” and it allows us to create beer unique to Wheatland Spring and our growing region.

We look forward to welcoming you on the farm so you’re able to experience for yourself how we marry farming and fermenting.

Brewed after our second estate grain harvest in autumn of 2020, rested in oak wine barrels over the winter, and bottle conditioned for months more in the springtime. We seed, tend, harvest and brew with ingredients we grow on our farm, for our beer. Well water, wheat from our first harvest, barley from our second harvest, wild-captured yeast, and clover honey from our bees collectively tell the story of our farm at the time Harvest 2020 was made.

Meet our team. If you’ve enjoyed beers here on the farm, there’s a good chance you’ve been served by Katie or Paige. Did you know that these hard workin’ gals are also full-on farmers during the week? Yesterday, alongside our farmer-friend Brandon, they lent a hand in the transplant of some of our rosemary from our northernmost field to our brewhouse herb garden. We are grateful for their work ethic and amazing demeanors every single day.

Gettin’ our third estate grain harvest on! As with all the grains we sow, these seeds were carefully selected for our climate and for their potential for fermentability.

We harvested our barley acreage nearly two weeks ago, but the wheat fields needed some extra days in the sun to dry to appropriate levels. Today we’re sweatin it out in the hot VA sun to get this grain out for you! Next steps quality control, cleaning, and malting.

HOPE GROWS
India Pale Ale 6.4%

Citrus and pine waft to the nose before a rush of herbal and tropical fruit aromatics usher in lush hop flavors.

HOPE GROWS 2021
For decades, the long-term mental and physical wellbeing of farmers has been all but ignored by most. Su***de rates for people engaged in agriculture are among the highest of any occupation in the United States, according to the most recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study. Read that again. Among other reasons, this is due to falling prices, extreme weather, and global trade disputes. Many of the factors are out of their control, but no less emotionally and financially crippling. Access to the type of healthcare farmers need isn’t always available in rural areas.

WHAT CAN WE DO?
The good news is there are ways all of us can help.

We’re happy to support AgriSafe by bringing awareness to these issues and contributing funding to their mission of “Protecting the People Who Feed the World” through their outreach and resource offerings.

Contributions from Hope Grows will be directly put to work in two ways:

1.    Supporting the launch of a nationwide crisis help line for farmers, and

2.    Cultivating a Healthy Mind Curriculum training programs for youth and young farmers.

If you’d like to support these efforts at AgriSafe directly, please do so here: https://www.agrisafe.org/donate

We ask that you please consider sharing this with others who may benefit or be in a position to support AgriSafe and their commitment to the longterm wellbeing of farming communities across the nation.

Thank you!

CORN CRIB
Farmhouse Lager - 5.5%

15% VA Grown / 100% Regional Malt

Impressions of: Stone-ground grits, lemon verbena, spring meadow, white grape

Inspired by Virginia and the region’s agricultural heritage, this is a beer we imagine could have been brewed here at the farm a hundred years ago. We draw from ingredients on our farm, surroundings, and agricultural region that were available to farmers back then.

The original batch of Corn Crib was brewed to celebrate the centennial of our Corn Crib Barn that now serves as the brewhouse, mill room, and open ferment loft.

Open today on the farm until 8pm.

We are also at 1836 Kitchen and Taproom this evening starting at 5pm. They will have 5 of our beers on tap for you! Come hang with us!

Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery (with on-farm B&B)

Established circa 1832, the historic Wheatland Spring property is nestled among gently rolling hills in the heart of rural Western Loudoun County. Wheatland Spring Farm + Brewery offers guests hand made beers in historic buildings that use ingredients from our farm, neighboring farms, and regional, small scale producers as much as possible.

Wheatland Spring is just an hour outside of Washington, DC, but a visit will return guests to the pace of life from decades ago. Named for the natural spring on the property, Wheatland Spring is situated on 30 acres of bucolic Virginia farmland with a number of outbuildings, including a cottage house, spring house, bank barn, and corn crib.
