Last months community cares program at our local Hannaford Supermarkets was a huge success. Just by people buying reusable shopping bags when they forgot theirs put a generous donation into our hands. Yesterday was meat pick up day and get our happy hunter on his way home. The crew at Hatch’s Custom Meat Cutting worked late the night before to finish up a quick turnaround for us on this. I was blown away when I was told there was no charge. Brady and his crew processed the moose for our Veteran and decided it would be a gift to support our mission. Those of you that know, the cost of having a moose processed is a lot. Please support the business’s that help us make these trips possible. Home unpacking and reloading things for the next Veteran moose hunt in a week but I need to take a minute to highlight some Witt’s End Wilderness side by side sponsors that really came through big for us. First off is Tom Halpin and his wife Astrid. They are big fans of everything outdoors and Tom is a retired Law Enforcement Officer. They are consistently supporters of many different causes in many different communities. They have covered the April payment. Thanks to you both!! Next up is Bill Dunn. I worked with Bill for many years and traveled all over the world with him in our Air Force days. Dunn Hydrofracturing LLC made the choice to donate 4 payments for us to support our Veteran driven mission. That carries us all the way through August. Thank you very much!! I know I say it often, but it is important to repeat. We couldn’t do what we do without support from the community like this.

I laid awake a lot last night replaying the day. It was one I won’t forget. The morning was beautiful, peaceful and calm. We spent the first 2 hours walking, glassing, calling, and swapping stories. When you put 4 older Veterans together the stories can be hilarious. Arthur got set up on this beautiful bull and squeezed the trigger at 825. I had told him that he had to get it done yesterday, I wasn’t hunting in the rain today. (Kidding) The moose made us work for the recovery and that’s all part of it. Im very thankful for the help I had from Jon LeClair and Todd Troutt on this hunt. I thought about posting lots of pictures this morning but this is all I need to post to tell the story. Arthur Whitehead and his family drove all the way from Kentucky for this hunt. This is what it’s all about. They were all able to experience a Maine Moose hunt together. Arthur has shared some of his military experiences with me. He is an amazing man who sacrificed so much for our country. That is his story to tell though with those he holds in confidence. This 725 pound bull made some memories for us.

One more video from my trip yesterday. I learned whenever possible a plane with bush tires land in the grass, not on a runway. The runway wears the tires out quickly compared to landing on grass. Makes sense. Here we come in for the landing in the grass

Call sign “Bullwinkle two six” was airborne at 0700 this morning. This was a very cool thing for me. When a 1 Star General offers to take you up flying for a couple hours to get eyes on some new area from above how could you say no. I was nervous about flying in a bush plane but I handled it fine. I needed to see if I could do it as a remote Alaskan bush hunt is my bucket list trip. So besides being a great day to fly, it was a tremendous day spotting some big bulls below. It was a great morning. Thank you General for taking me up.

***Saturday morning update. A 2 month pledge was given last night.***

Here we are in October. It seems like it came fast this year. Today I want to highlight people from all over Maine and out of state as well. I put a post out again about our sponsor a payment for the Witt’s End Wilderness Side by Side. Wow did people answer the call. I know we are all concerned with the price of heating oil, gas, groceries and everything else going into winter but the folks I am about to highlight still made the decision to help us. We can’t say thank you enough.

October Tim Hannan and Katie McKay picked up another payment. They made our very first payment on the machine as well. They are always answering the call when we are needing something.

November James Jordan and his family stepped up. James came on a bear hunt with us and wanted to pay it forward for other Veterans that the side by side will benefit. We love seeing acts like this

December Joanne Jordan who founded and runs Wild Women Adventures (give her a follow on Facebook) came through for us. She could easily be using this money on her own equipment. She is a Registered Maine Guide and it means a lot that she chose to support us.

January Fred Schempp hailing out of New York sent a payment for us. I met Fred when he stayed at our camps on a moose hunt a couple of seasons ago. Incredibly nice gentleman and we had a lot of fun bantering back and forth about everything imaginable. The fact that he picked up a payment after only have interacted with me for a week is tremendous.

Feb and March Ricky Hughes and wife Brittany, Mike Kaselis, and Matt Stevens made a 2 month payment. They are firefighters who came fishing this past winter. It was one of my own favorite days. A ton of laughs were had all day. Highlights included getting chased by a border patrol plane and the group getting to watch me step into a drilled hole. Definitely hoping we can get this group back this coming winter.

Thank you again for everyone’s support. Every single dollar goes a long way with a small nonprofit. You will always get to see where your money goes and for what with us.
