Staying near Tân Sơn Nhất airport? You’re not stuck 🙌

Whether you’ve just landed, have a layover, or you’re killing time before a flight, this area has more going on than people think. Here’s where we’d go:

☕ For coffee:

📍 Milligram
Retro interior, two levels, genuinely good coffee. Not a lot of seats so it feels cozy rather than chaotic. Don’t miss the small rooftop area.

📍Càlamát
Quiet, low-key, the kind of place you go when you need to actually think. Good for a catch-up or a laptop session.

📍 FaRída
Great lighting, lots of character, plenty of sockets. Come for the photos, stay because you actually got some work done.

🍜 For food:

📍Xôi Chiên
Not your usual phở or bánh mì intro to Vietnamese food, which is exactly why we love it. A local dish that doesn’t get nearly enough attention.

📍Cơm Bắc
Vietnamese comfort food, a few blocks from the airport. Honestly one of the more authentic first or last meals you could have in Vietnam.

📍 Khoen
Professional staff, quick process, nice selection. Sometimes you just land in a new city and make a spontaneous decision.

Here is your quick checklist before you book:

📲 Where to Book: Skip the sketchy third-party street agencies and use Vexere for real-time local seat maps and direct operator prices.

💺 Seating Strategy:
Snag the Lower Deck to avoid mountain-road motion sickness, and stay away from the back row unless you want to share a massive flat bed with zero privacy.

⚠️ Avoid the Traps:
Beware the “Limousine” Seat Trap. Always double-check that you are booking a flat bed, not just a reclining van seat. And solo travelers, remember the “Rando” Trap: stick strictly to single cabins, because if you book a double bed on a standard bus, they will put a complete stranger in that tiny space with you to maximize room!

🎒 Survival Essentials:
Keep your passport, phone, and wallet in a small bag strapped to your body while you sleep to prevent petty theft. Since you have to bag your shoes at the entrance, wear easy slip-ons, and definitely pack a hoodie because that cabin AC is notoriously icy!

We booked a Grab to the Pink Church. And then just... started walking 🚶‍♀️

Look, most of us have seen Nhà Thờ Tân Định from a distance or passed it on a Grab. But have you actually explored what’s around it? Because we hadn’t. And we were today years old when we discovered this area is actually packed.

Here’s what we found on one afternoon of wandering:

🥖 Bánh Mì Chấm Hung Tubes — yellow plastic chairs, bánh mì with dipping broth, cà phê muối. Hidden in an alley off Hai Bà Trưng and absolutely worth finding.

🛍️ Đình Công Tráng street — a whole strip of streetwear, vintage and jewelry shops. Goût Tui, 23SPTMBR, Unkrush... too many to list, honestly just go and explore.

🥤 Opla Smoothie — fresh smoothies, ginger shots, and a self-proclaimed Michelin sign that made us laugh out loud. Iconic.

🛒 Chợ Tân Định — more local than Bến Thành, more fabric than you’ll know what to do with. Great if you’re looking for áo dài material or just want a proper market experience.

🍽️ Bánh Xèo 46A — apparently quite famous. One for the list.

☕ Giao Coffee & Wine — tucked in an alley right past the bánh xèo spot. Coffee by day, wine by night, and possibly the cutest exterior in the neighbourhood.

And then of course — the church itself 🩷 Built in 1876, famous for its pink colour, but fun fact: it wasn’t actually pink for its first 80 years. The colour only came in 1957. Still pretty though.

The Thảo Điền comeback we didn’t know we needed. 🥹🌱

Genuinely didn’t realize how much we missed having iVegan around until they reopened. And now that they’re back, we’re already thinking about which healthy bowl to get next.

We’re always looking for new places to eat... so this was a pretty fun discovery 🍽️

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗶 has just added table reservations to their app, making it even easier to plan your next lunch or dinner.

They’ve also put together the 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗻𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲’𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝟬! A list of 100 must-visit restaurants in HCMC and another 100 in Hanoi, based on real user data and community votes.

And the cherry on top: Until September 15, you’ll 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝟭𝟱% 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗠 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 when heading to one of the restaurants on the list.

🚌 SAIGON BUSES ARE NOW FREE?!

Yes, really.
From 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟭 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, you can ride all 134 public bus routes completely free—whether you’re a foreigner or local.

𝗔 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄:

🚌 Officially, no registration needed from July 1 – September 30. Just hop on. (NOTE: implementation isn’t completely consistent yet. Some buses already ask you to check in with your card or ID).

💳 From October 1 – December 31, simply tap your Visa or Mastercard when boarding for passenger registration. You won’t be charged.

✈️ Flying into Tan Son Nhat Airport?
Bus 152 will get you between the airport and Bến Thành Market for free. (Bus 109 isn’t included.)

📲 Not sure which bus to take?
Scan the official QR codes at major bus stops, inside buses, or at the airport to see live routes, nearby stops, and arrival times. OR download MultiGo (has anyone tried this yet?)

Honestly... this might be the perfect excuse to explore a different side of Saigon without spending a single đồng. 👀

Here are some of our favourite spots for a foodie date in HCMC for when you’re keeping it casual or going all out:

Chang’s Bistro — river views, landmark vibes, and a giant seafood pasta that’s basically made to share. Set the scene before you even take a bite.
📍 Changs Bistro

Quan Bui — elevated Vietnamese done right. Everything on the table is meant to be passed around, but save room for the passionfruit dessert. Trust us on this one!
📍 QUÁN BỤI RESTAURANTS

Lupin — not just sharing plates, but a bottle of wine chosen with you. The sommelier and chef make it personal, and that makes all the difference.
📍 Lupin Bistrot et Vins

Dalcheeni — order the Pani Poori and just watch what happens. An experience as much as a meal, and everything else on the menu holds up too.
📍 Dalcheeni | Indian Restaurant

Bing Bing — one giant bowl, two people, multiple flavour options. Chaotic in the best way.
📍 BING BING – Korean Bing Su & Dessert Cafe

Haidilao at Landmark — hotpot, DIY sauce bar, and if you somehow end up going solo... they’ll seat a giant panda plushy across from you. No notes 🐼
