Spires Market. Asian street food in front of Lala's beach — about eight minutes from our gate, just past downtown Rincón.

It's the kind of place you don't expect to find here. Then you find it. Then you come back all week.

Lunch or dinner. Both work.

A few views of Ceiba Tree Inn — from above, looking out toward the Bay of Aguada, and at the gate where the lions still keep watch.
The property used to be called LionsGate. We kept the lions but changed the name — the Ceiba tree had already won us over.

Morning on Don Antonio Beach. Pink, blue, yellow, and the ocean through the trees.

A few minutes of soft light before the day gets loud.

The Rincón Farmers Market. Sundays, 8 to 1, town square.

Organic produce, local food, arts and crafts, and the people who make it all. One of our favorite Sunday rituals.

Keep an eye out for the Puerto Rican Blue Banana — elusive, and rumored to taste like vanilla. We've never seen one. We keep looking.

A page from the guestbook. Brian and Tiffany from Wisconsin, after their stay in Casita 3.

Coquíes. Colectivo. Surfing. The west coast at its quietest.

That's the trip. Thank you, you two.

Meet the coquí. He's a tiny tree frog — about the size of a quarter — and he only lives in Puerto Rico. At night, he sings: co-quí, co-quí.

It's one of the loveliest sounds to fall asleep to — soft, steady, and somehow exactly the right rhythm. Most guests tell us they slept better here than they have in years.

We did too, the first time we visited Ceiba Tree Inn. We still do. Every night.

Rincón faces west. People come from across the island for the sunsets.

Ceiba Tree Inn faces north. We don't get the sunset — we get the sky's reaction to it. Some nights the reaction is the better part.

Casita 3 is the quiet one. The most private of our casitas, it's down a staircase, in the gardens. Guests who choose it tend to stay longer. They sleep with the door open. They choose the sound of the coquíes over the air conditioning.

Mel visited from London last month with her sister.

A few slow days, a full guestbook page, and — luckily for us — a camera.

"Everyone visits San Juan… but misses out on this place," she wrote after. Her sister called it stunning.

We'll be sharing a few of her photos here over the next few months. First one up.
