A little piece of the circle, completed. 🦒🤎
What an incredible surprise to discover a beautiful baby giraffe born here at Kilburn Nature Reserve, so perfectly timed with the recent visit of the Rein-Weston-Yaeger family from the USA — the family whose story is so deeply woven into this land.
We went to meet the newest little member of the Kilburn family today, and were delighted to find this tiny giraffe looking healthy, strong and wonderfully happy.
And there is something even more special about this little arrival.
Kathleen, daughter of the legendary John Weston, shared a dream for Kilburn Nature Reserve with her husband, Carl Rein-Weston — a dream to see giraffe roaming freely across this land. 🦒
To welcome a giraffe into the world during the very visit of their descendants feels almost too perfectly timed to be coincidence. It is a beautiful full-circle moment — connecting the dreams of those who came before us with the reality of what this land has become today.
And so, in honour of the family, their history and that shared dream, we have named this little one Ray West.
And somehow, the timing became even more meaningful for us personally. Ray West arrived in the very same week as our third-born son’s birthday, adding another little layer of significance to a week already filled with family, legacy and new beginnings. 🤎
A new life.
An old dream realised.
A family legacy continuing.
And another beautiful chapter in the story of Kilburn.
Welcome to the world, Ray West. You arrived at the perfect time. 🌿🦒✨
