Lalibela Game Reserve

They certainly are a talented troupe
Thank you for showcasing to us 🙏

The Seven Fountains Gumboot Troupe!

These children, who are from the local Seven Fountains community near Lalibela Game Reserve, have an immense passion for dance and practice their gumboot dance performance every day!

Charmain, Head of Lalibela Community Development, has taken this group under her wing and has provided them with uniforms and gumboots.

Our guests were recently treated to a gumboot dance performance. Any gratuities that are left for the group are used towards an outing of their choice.

For their next outing, the children have decided to go to a nearby hotel where they will enjoy the day in the swimming pool and have a traditional South African braai!

Time stood still in Oudtshoorn, it’s been 10 years since my last visit, little has changed, locals still selling brightly coloured feather dusters outside the museum.......... 🪶 the dust from a pair of dancing Ostrich birds and the local spoken dialect of Dutch.....

My personal favourite will always be La Plume Guest House, where the heart of the people never stopped beating, that Karoo hospitality, the friendly faces, despite the hardships of the past 9 months.....

All the COVID protocols are in place with extreme care taken for guests safety. A bucket list stop and experience......... La Plume Boutique Guest House what a privilege

Celebrations give your employees recognition for accomplishments and milestones in both business and their personal lives. Being recognized for those accomplishments shows employees that you pay attention to what they're doing at work and value their contributions. Workplace celebrations give you a platform for providing appreciation and brings the staff members together for one purpose: The celebration helps create a sense of team unity for the staff members, particularly if you are celebrating a team accomplishment ....... getting through Covid together. We managed an annual, very reduced and socially distanced, office Bring ‘n Braai 🎄Christmas 🎄Party.

Thank you to everybody for their contribution during these trying times 🎄we appreciate you.

A sad loss, of a wonderful ranger many of our Australian guests remember and our guides worked with, condolences to the family and Sheldon will be fondly remembered. Rest In Peace.

*Sheldon Hooper: 1993 - 2020*

As a guest or a friend of Sheldon’s, you would have had the pleasure of experiencing his incredible kindness, infectious smile and love of the bush. His repertoire of knock-knock jokes couldn’t help but make you chuckle, no matter how you were feeling, and the adaptation of his signature fist-bump or high-five greeting, to a foot bump during COVID, would have been seen all over Waterside Lodge, which is where he was stationed.

Sheldon joined Thornybush in July of 2019, and fast made his way into the hearts of his colleagues, with his quirky sense of humour, the respect he showed those he worked with, his dedication for conservation and his talent for story-telling.

His keen eye behind the camera was also noted early on - as was his willingness to share his knowledge with guests of all ages, as well as his team members. Sheldon was also a gifted writer, contributing to our Thornybush blog.

Sheldon’s life was a celebration of his passions and he is sorely missed by all.

Woman’s Day - South Africa - 09-August 2020

The woman of Tour d’Afrique

August is woman’s month, it’s a time not only to acknowledge and celebrate those who pioneered South Africa’s Women’s movement, but honour the empowering and uplifting woman in our lives.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), women make up the majority of the tourism workforce in most regions of the world.

These women are all playing a leading role in ensuring tourism remains one of the most dynamic industries. It is all about service; it is very emotional, so who better than the mighty woman.

We wait patiently to arrange your journey.

In support and solidarity for the industry we love. Proud of our team who stood up for Tourism

South Africa's COVID19 lock down rules are the hardest in the world and continues to destroy small business here in South Africa.

Alcohol and cigarette smoking is banned. We have curfew at 9pm and being told we can not visit family.

All local tourism has ceased to operate and restaurants have been forced to lay off staff in huge numbers. There is little or no financial support for our industries.

1 in 22 people are affected by tourism in Africa

Woking together to get through this 🇿🇦

Nelson Mandela Day was formulated on the idea that just one person has the power to change the world. It was inspired by the late struggle hero, who at his 90th birthday celebrations in London's Hyde Park in 2008 – through his words: “Where human beings are being oppressed, there is more work to be done”

Mandela Day to me means helping those who are in need and giving people a better life, as Nelson Mandela did for us in South Africa.
