Cape Town's CBD to transform with a weekend of public space activations 🌆🎉

A massive three-day weekend festival of public space activations, creative experiences, and open-street programming is set to transform Cape Town’s Central Business District (CBD) at the end of May. Driven by the Mission for Inner City Cape Town, the ambitious initiative aims to reshape how locals and visitors engage with the city center, encouraging people to experience the urban heart of Cape Town far beyond the traditional workweek.

From Friday, 29 May to Sunday, 31 May, the inner city will play host to a dynamic series of interconnected public activations. Featuring the popular Street Feast, Inner City Saturdays, and the highly anticipated return of Bree Street Sundays—organized in collaboration with the Young Urbanists—the entire weekend is designed to inspire people to walk, explore, gather, and reconnect.

This vibrant city comes alive on 24 May, transforming the streets, promenade, and parks into a lively celebration that makes race day just as thrilling for the crowd as it is for the 27,000 runners tackling the 42.2km 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🎉

Residents and drivers should be aware that road closures and parking restrictions will be implemented across Green Point, the CBD, Woodstock, Observatory, the Southern Suburbs, Sea Point, and nearby areas from 22–24 May.

Runners and onlookers are encouraged to take advantage of the event’s transportation options, which include park & ride facilities, MyCiTi shuttles, and special train services. Spectators can also join in the excitement at cheer zones along the route, with a festive support area set up outside City Hall.
