60seconds.travel

You want to know what Cape Town, Western Cape is all about? Give us 60 seconds. We tried to capture as much as we could of this mesmerizing place. The beaches, the views, the surroundings. The highlights of one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

///// 60seconds.travel. We travel the world. In 60 seconds./////

Check out our website: 60seconds.travel
...and follow us on Instagram and Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLjP_oJmM37QtezjyNMJQ5Q

It went all too fast? You want the details? No problem.
Here are our recommendations in order of appearance:

0:06 Up and Down
The city centre is surrounded by incredibly high mountains. That leads to a lot of workout up and down the hills. The Higgo Cres is the steepest street we found but we’re quite sure it can get steeper.

0:11 Lion's Head
There’s no easy way up the Lion’s Head but there’s one very hard route. It’s called "The Chains and the junction is halfway up to the peak. On the way up it’s not that bad, but since you climb the Lions Head to drink a sundowner up there, make sure you carry at least a headlamp to get back down safely.

0:16 Mzoli's
Located in the heart of the Gugulethu township, Mzoli's Meat, Gugulethu (Cape Town) is the place to go if you want to have a rather different Braai BBQ experience. The best day to go is a Sunday afternoon. To have a party of a lifetime you have to keep in mind three things: Don’t bring any valuables, leave before sunset and don’t be a vegetarian.

0:17 Muizenberg
You’re into surfing and beach life? Then you’ll love the relaxed vibe along the ocean boulevard of Muizenberg. And the colourful Edwardian Beach Houses are quite instagrammy.

0:20 Boulders Beach
Yes, there are penguins in Africa. And they’re awesome. Boulders Beach is a colony where you can even swim with the cutest birds alive – if you pay at the entrance.

0:23 Blouberg Strand
If you want to relax on the beach with a view you’ll have to go to the other side of the bay. Blouberg Strand is famous amongst kite surfers and offers a brilliant view on the…

00:23 Table Mountain Aerial Cableway
This 1000 meter high mountain right above the city centre of Cape Town is part of the New Seven Wonders of the World – and we have no idea why it hasn’t been one before. You can walk up here, but we highly recommend taking the Cableway Safe your stamina for the Lion’s Head.

0:28 Chapman's Peak Drive
If you put in “Cape of Good Hope” in your satnav it’ll tell you to avoid the toll road. Don’t trust the satnav, pay the small toll and ride down one of the most beautiful roads of the planet.

0:30 Platboom Beach
Right next to the Cape of Good Hope is a beautiful beach named “Platboom”. Since most of the tourists just stop at the real cape you should really take your time and experience more of the peninsula.

0:33 Cape of Good Hope
The Cape of Good Hope is not exactly a beautiful place. There is a signboard. And lots of tourists trying to take a picture with it. So if you’re not into queuing: go straight to Cape Point just two kilometres away.

0:35 Cape Point
Cape Point is everyone’s idea of a postcard. The dramatic cliff rises hundreds of meters into the sky straight from the sea. Take the time to walk all the way to the front of the peninsula to get the best view on the Cape of Good Hope and the old lighthouse.

0:38 Helicopter Ride
You have to see beautiful Cape Town from above. Helicopter rides are quite affordable and we highly recommend doing it. Some tours even go around the cape - even better. Our operator: NAC Helicopters Cape Town

0:43 Kloof Street House
It’s nearly impossible to order bad food in Cape Town. There are thousands of great restaurants in town. One of our favourites is the Kloof Street House – a very hip place in an old colonial estate.

0:45 Shark Diving
Gansbaai is not exactly Cape Town but you should really take a trip to the great white sharks. There are numerous operators that pick you up from the city centre in the middle of the night – so you don’t have to go there by yourself. And if you don’t see a shark most of the operators will give you a voucher for the next trip. We went out with White Shark Projects

0:51 Green Point Stadium
It might be the most beautiful stadium of the world since the setting could not be more epic with the Table Mountain in the background. The problem is: The local team Ajax Cape Town just can’t fill it…

0:52 Robben Island
You can’t go to South Africa without knowing about its apartheid history. Robben Island, the Alcatraz of Cape Town, held thousands of political prisoners – including of course Nelson Mandela. Tickets are hard to get and the ferry does not leave with high wind velocities. So book your trip well in advance.

0:56 Bo-Kaap
The most colourful part of Cape Town is home to an interesting mix of muslim-dutch inhabitants.

0:58 V & A Waterfront
It is THE Waterfront. Go here for a full afternoon, shop and relax with a drink in one of the numerous bars and restaurants.

0:59 Camps Bay, Western Cape, South Africa
See and be seen at the probably most posh beach of Cape Town. Camps Bay is a very pricy residential area just underneath the famous 12 Apostels.

We would like to thank: KPRN network, FlySAA Germany, South African Airways, Südafrika - erleben, M&M Travel Solutions and Chris Fay for making this possible.
