Four years ago, this whale washed up on a beach near Mpekweni, and a piece of it has remained here ever since.
Quietly reminding visitors of the giants that roam our oceans, it offers a glimpse into the incredible marine life that shares our coastline.
Long before it rested on this lawn, it belonged to an animal that may have travelled thousands of kilometres along the Southern African coast, navigating vast stretches of ocean with remarkable precision. Standing beside this piece of history is a reminder of just how connected Mpekweni is to the natural world around it.
Today, it invites us to pause, look a little closer, and appreciate the wildlife that shares these waters with us.
The next time you're walking along the beach, keep your eyes on the horizon. You never know what wonders the ocean might reveal.
Nature leaves clues everywhere.
Sometimes they're hidden in the dunes.
Sometimes they're carried in on the tide.
And sometimes, they become part of the story of a place. ๐๐ค
