“Last week, while attending a book festival, I had the good fortune of being put up at Bonne Esperance Guest House, which, I dare say, is more than just a place to eat and sleep.

It is a living piece of history that beautifully reflects the rich heritage of Simon’s Town, the charming coastal town in which it is located in the Western Cape.” - Fred Khumalo (South African journalist and author).

What an honour to be described like this by Fred Khumalo. He has described what we are trying to achieve perfectly. A consistent work in progress to merge heritage and contemporary use. Thank you Fred.

Welcome to Bonne Esperance, Simon's Town! It is our home and guest house, so come and stay with us! We are your hosts, Nic and Alex.

We spent a year repairing and restoring this grand old dame, bringing new life to an iconic building in historic Simon's Town.

The house is between 126 - 119 years old having been built in 1897/1904. The house has had various iterations from the Bonne Esperance Guest House to the Seaforth Hotel.

We bought BE to create a memorable experience for our guests, mixing history and our beautiful location, perched on the hillslope overlooking Seaforth and False Bay.

Nic is an archaeologist and Alex is a project manager working in the urban planning sphere.

〰️ When Nic’s not at BE he is travelling around the country conducting heritage impact assessments for new renewable projects. Dodging ostriches who seem to have a soft spot for him.

〰️ When Alex is not at BE she’s in Bellville working on a project using placemaking to revitalise Bellville’s CBD.
