May marks the celebration of International Museum Month. The International Museum Day 2026 theme is "Museums Uniting a Divided World," announced by ICOM (International Council of Museums) to highlight the role of cultural institutions in fostering dialogue, inclusion, and peace.

We are delighted to welcome it with a range of exciting activities.

As we build up to International Museum Day on 18 May, we invite the public to visit all our museums free of charge on this special day.

Highlights for the month include:

📌During the week of 13 May, we launch our Rock Art Educational Programme with Grade 4 learners

📌On 23 May, we welcome artist Gerrit van Wyk, who will be showcasing his exhibition Nostalgies Karoo at The Old Library (opening from 22 May).

📌The newly renovated Old Residency Museum will also be open to visitors, offering a refreshed space to experience local history.

Let us celebrate the vital role museums play in our society as keepers and custodians of our heritage.
