This is a loofah. And yes, it grew in our garden.

Most people don't know that the sponge you buy in a shop started as a fruit on a vine. It grows like a cucumber — give it something to climb and it'll do the rest. One of the easiest things we grow at Kokiville.

You pick it when it's dry, peel back the skin, shake out the seeds, and you're holding a sponge that nature made. Use it in the shower as a body scrub. Use it in the kitchen as a pot scourer. No plastic. No packaging. Just a plant doing what it does.

And the seeds? Keep them and plant them again. One vine keeps giving.

This is the kind of thing that makes me love living here. Not because it's perfect or Pinterest-worthy, but because it's real. You grow it, you use it, you grow it again.

Gav and I have had to be very conscious of taking time off. Running a guesthouse and farm while both running our other businesses can leave us burnout! This year we are taking care of ourselves and in the process we are allowing our creative flow to shine again. It has been such a lesson to see just how burnout we have been in building to what it is today and how burnout just crushes creativity!
