People don't get to see the far reaching impacts of using rodenticides. The suffering the poison inflicts often goes on long after the rat is dead. 😓

The life of the male Spotted Eagle Owl at St Michaels Complex has been a sad and lonely one since his mate was killed by rodenticide poisoning. It is months after her death, and he is still looking for her. He returns often to the owl box where they raised chicks together for many years. He brings food to the box in the hope that each time she might be there. He makes soft courting sounds, hoping she will hear him. It is heartbreaking to watch. 💔

He does not know what happened to her. We can't tell him what happened to her. For him, there is no understanding, and no closure. 💔

It is sad that our species, which has the intelligence to know right from wrong, so often chooses wrong.
