Farm life has a particular kind of magic that most of us only know from memory.

The kind where you arrived without warning and were welcomed anyway. Where doors were left unlocked. Where dogs roamed freely between the stoep and the veld. Where the kitchen was always warm.

That feeling didn’t disappear. It just became harder to find.

The warmth you feel at Nieuwe Sion isn’t something you can manufacture.

It comes from our phenomenal team. The ones who know the farm like the back of their hand. Who notice the small things. Who make you feel at home before you’ve even put your bags down.

This winter, we’re giving them what they so generously give everyone else- rest, space, and time to simply be.

Our accommodation will be closed from 1 June for a period of maintenance and rest. We look forward to welcoming guests back from 12 July. In the meantime, citrus picking will continue throughout this week.

Guests tell us the same thing every time.

They arrive with the city still humming in their ears. They’re a little wound up, still half-checked into their emails, moving at a pace the valley doesn’t recognize.

And then, usually on morning two, something shifts. The weight of the “to-do list” is replaced by the weight of the silence. The screen-glare is traded for the view of the mountains.

Autumn at Nieuwe Sion deserves the spotlight.

It’s the one season that arrives unapologetically. Leaves turn into a kaleidoscope of yellows, burnt oranges, and deep reds. Rainwater finds its way into the hollow spaces that spent all summer waiting.

You feel it in every sense. Citrus sharp in the air. Welly boots on wet ground. Gardens so insistently green they seem almost defiant. There’s a slowness here that autumn asks for, and the farm gives it willingly.
