We are Dean and Phil, who run the local farmer’s market and offer this unique base in Porterville to explore the great country side around us.

The Stable is a Bed and Breakfast featuring a 145 m² cottage with 2 big bedrooms, open plan kitchen and lounge, a private garden and braai. We are located on the quiet edge of Porterville town, with good security and yes, free wifi. Here is a quick breakdown of our most asked about features... Picture The cottage has a flat screen tv with NetFlix, fireplace in the lounge, space to sit outside, a shower/ toilet shared by the 2 rooms, with fresh clean linens, towels, a hairdryer and free toiletries. Bedroom 1: 1 x Queen bed Bedroom 2: 1 x Queen bed & 1 x single bunk bed Lounge has a single bed in for an additional guest if required. Our guests can enjoy a tasty breakfast delivered on a tray to your door between 8am and 10am. The kitchen in the cottage is equipped with toaster, gas stovetop, fridge, convection oven and a coffee plunger. Tea, instant coffee (Nescafe... we're not animals!), sugar, salt all there with some fresh milk in the fridge. Oh, and when you arrive, you will be enthusiastically greeted by our resident security team.... Buddy, Belle and JB. The 3 onsite Dachshunds who have been joined by our rescue Border Collie who guards the chickens for us :-)

Storm Report SA

The mid latitude cyclone "LS" is about to pass quite close to the Cape south coast. The entire system contains much moisture and will provide a very cold and rainy day for nearly all of the Cape. A purple arrow indicates the movement of the cold front and it's rain during the day. Overnight, snow will begin on the central Cape mountains, spreading towards Lesotho, continuing in patches tomorrow (Saturday) backed up by front "FS3" which is expected to also provide rain for the Port Elizabeth areas. The diagram shows rain spreading as far as Swakopmund, and close to Windhoek in Namibia. Initial rain on the cold side of the front will be moderate to heavy (bright pink), and thunder activity is indicated for the far south-west Cape, especially out at sea. Various winds strengths are shown, and will not be as strong as yesterday.
Tomorrow morning (Saturday) the cold front will reach the central regions of Limpopo, Botswana, and Namibia, having passed through the Free State and Gauteng. In these areas, however, the air will start drying out, so cloud patches will begin evaporating and no showers can be expected. The Saturday sunrise temperatures in the central interior will be freezing in many places, including parts of the southern half of Namibia.
Today's very warm temperatures for the east coast will begin to drop during the afternoon as the adiabatic winds become disarrayed.

So today we had an awesome day trip to follow the trail of snow from the mountains above us, through Gouda and Tulbagh to the lovely Ceres where we found it at the foot of Matroosberg Reserve. We sit at the foot of Olifants Rivier Mountains and when it rains, it all collects in the Olifants River and fills Clanwilliam Dam. Today we took a day trip to the Cederberg area and were met with the stunning sight of this river flowing twice as strong as last week across the road to Algiers. More than 80m across and too strong to stand in even 5m in. Porterville is the perfect spot to stay if you want to explore around the beautiful West Coast. www.thestableporterville.co.za

Busy as a bee in our garden... Lovely weather and lots of fun planning new beds for winter. Meslcun salads, radishes, Apple cross cucumbers, purple carrots, purple broccoli, brussels sprouts, herbs and more herbs. Oh, and flowers for our friends the bees... :-)
