There is something interesting about the phrase "Big Five".

For many, it's the first thing they associate with an African safari. Five iconic species that have become synonymous with the continent itself.

But spend enough time in the bush and that list begins to change shape.

The lion you find asleep beneath a tree stays with you for reasons beyond the sighting itself. An elephant crossing the road isn't memorable because it completes the five, but because everything else stops while it passes. A leopard teaches patience. A rhino reminds you of resilience.
