SPOTLIGHT ON: HWANGE SAFARI LODGE

On the border of the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe - and only an hour’s drive from the Victoria Falls, is a visitors’ favorite, the Hwange Safari Lodge. The Hwange National Park Airport is just 5km away. The Lodge has 100 well-appointed rooms and suites, and caters for a diverse range of individuals and groups from the lone adventurer to couples, families and tour groups.

Hwange is all about wildlife, so game drives with expert guides are the order of the day at Hwange Safari Lodge. These can be enjoyed at night or in daytime but always in the care of expert guides. To top it all, the nearby water-hole provides a great view of game from each room, the restaurant, pool area and the viewing deck. Early morning or late afternoon are the best times to view wildlife in its domain.

Hwange Safari Lodge is also home to the best food experience in Zimbabwe – Bush Dinners. These can be arranged on request for between 12 and 50 people. They are held in the bush under starlight with bonfires for guests to enjoy that total bush camp experience punctuated by the sounds of all creatures great and small. The Lodge provides a full buffet dinner and traditional African fare, all with the compulsory braai. For the less adventurous, an array of Western foods is also available on the buffet to ensure that no one is left out. For smaller groups, this wonderful meal experience can be enjoyed within the grounds of the lodge.

During the day, guests can take a tour of the nearby pottery village and buy some mementos and gifts for family and friends. For international guests to have a full appreciation of different African lifestyles, a tour of the village to visit some of the households can also be arranged.

Wildlife and general hospitality is good. Is it unfair to expect at least lamb or beef if you pay $26 for a dinner buffet? The only meat tonight was warthog and Impala. I enjoy the place but its international rates are close to exploitation.

Where in the world can you relax in your room while watching elephants playing in the nearby water hole and children in the swimming pool? The two pools very close to each other. A wonderful place
