Thala Estate receives good summer rainfall, but winters can be chilly and occasionally experiences snowfalls. However, winter days are generally fairly mild with fine weather and amazing cloud formations appearing. Thala, which is over 5 000 hectares in extent, is flanked by mountainous terrain and a large plateau forms part of the estate. The various natural habitats, including acacia forest, indigenous mountain flora, open plains, sweet veld , flood plains and riverine vegetation encourage a wide and balanced variety of species to thrive. In addition, the estate supports a wide variety of birds including raptors and waterfowl, some of which are seasonal visitors. In addition to Thala, we have access to a further minimum 25 000 hectares of mixed farming and extensive ranch land on which we can offer hunting of certain valuable animals which occur naturally in large numbers. The Main Lodge and adjacent annexe provide for the discerning client a luxury experience in lavishly furnished rooms. We also provide excellent cuisine and an overall experience which is arguably unrivalled.
