That’s not a sight you see every day 🛻

At Gwabi, we don’t just host guests – we also help keep the Lower Zambezi running behind the scenes. Situated on the Kafue River just 6 km from the Zambezi and about 2.5–3 hours from Lusaka, Gwabi River Lodge is a natural logistics hub for lodges downstream. Alongside our road transfers in a 16‑seater Sprinter, we offer river transfers between lodges and safe overnight parking for vehicles and boat trailers.

That means loads like building materials, supplies, equipment and even vehicles can move by river from our slipway – with our workshop on hand for boat and vehicle repairs if needed. So whether you’re here for a weekend away or sending gear further down the river, Gwabi quietly keeps things flowing.

Happy Africa Freedom Day!

Today we celebrate the spirit of freedom, resilience and possibility across our continent – and for many of us, that also means a well‑earned pause from the week’s rush. In Zambia, Africa Freedom Day on 25 May is a public holiday, giving you a little more time to slow down, reconnect and enjoy the places that make this country special.

If you’re spending it at Gwabi, we hope the river, trees and open sky give you space to breathe, reflect and enjoy good company – on the water, by the braai or simply watching the Kafue flow past.

Last‑minute long weekend plans – loading…🤸

Bag in the boot, cooler packed, crew on standby – Gwabi is that “why not?” decision you’re very happy you made. It’s close enough for a spontaneous dash and far enough to feel like you’ve properly escaped.

Think: tiger fish on the line, lazy canoe safaris, sunset boat cruises, River Girl trips and that first cold drink under the trees while you decide if you’re braai‑and‑chill or “one more run on the river.” Throw in a chalet, stone tent or shaded campsite and you’ve got the long weekend sorted.

Africa Freedom Day long weekend is almost here – time to hit the water 🎣

Monday 25 May is a public holiday, which means you’ve got an extra day to swap city noise for river sounds and cool drinks. Gwabi River Lodge sits on the Kafue River, just 2–3 hours’ drive from Lusaka and 6 km from the Zambezi – easy drive, big reset.

Think tiger fishing missions, lazy canoe safaris, slow boat cruises and sunsets that just keep going, whether you’re camping, in a chalet or just down for the day. And if you really want to make it special, book a cruise on River Girl before you arrive so your spot on the water is guaranteed. Braai, chill, repeat – that’s the brief for the long weekend.
