In Africa, we don’t truly own land—we hold it in trust for our ancestors and pass it on to the next generation.

A baby elephant sucking its trunk is one of the most heartwarming sights in the wild. 🐘
Just like human babies suck their thumbs for comfort, young elephants use their trunks to soothe themselves, especially when they are tired, stressed, or close to their mothers. This behavior shows just how intelligent and emotional elephants are, forming strong family bonds and learning life skills from a very young age.

In the African bush, even the smallest habits tell powerful stories of survival, love, and connection.

Celebrating 170 Years Since David Livingstone First Set Foot on Livingstone Island ✨

On 16 November 1855, David Livingstone landed on what is now known as Livingstone Island, guided by the Makololo people. From this very spot, he looked out across the mighty Victoria Falls for the first time and wrote the famous words: “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.”

Today, 170 years later, we honour this moment in history. As the exclusive operators to Livingstone Island, Homba Safaris is proud to share this remarkable place with guests who continue to experience the same awe-inspiring views.

Thank you to Glen Simes (Vic Falls writer & photographer) for sharing the historical research, narrative, and images that make this tribute possible.
