10 Reasons Everyone Should Go on Safari in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is one of the most unique nations on Earth, it encompasses all of Africa’s Big 5, is home to the largest waterfall on the continent, plays host to the mighty Zambezi River and is the birthplace of the Southern Africa safari trade.

The Zambezi Queen is unique in that it's a sophisticated, elegant experience that has not lost the essence of all that is uniquely African.

There can be few natural wonders as synonymous with Africa's raw wilderness as the great Chobe River. These waters divide Namibia's Caprivi Strip from Botswana's Chobe National Park, and its exotic banks boast one of the densest populations of wildlife on the African continent. Teeming with life, this National Park sprawls across some 11 000 m of lush African bush, and is home to the largest populace of elephants in the world – currently estimated at roughly 120 000. Along with the elephants, leopards and lions, huge groups of buffalo, waterbuck, roan, eland, sable, giraffe, and, if you are lucky, one of the rare puku, can also be seen. In the river itself watch out for hippo and crocodile, and keep your binoculars at the ready for spotting a rich selection of bird life.

It is on this great expanse of untamed water an adventure unlike any other awaits. Why join the crowds on land-based game drives when you can experience the thrill of it all from your own private suite aboard a luxury 45 meter boat? The Zambezi Queen is all about pampering, indulgence, and superior comfort.Whether you are dining on our third level restaurant watching the animals gather at the water at dusk, game viewing from one of our private boats, or attempting to land your first tiger fish, our professional team will be on hand to meet your every need.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge first opened in 1975 and is a famous, well-loved Zimbabwe luxury lodge that overlooks the massive Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe, just a one-hour direct flight from “Wonder of the World” Victoria Falls. The panoramic vista is sublime and it is impossible not to exclaim “WOW” when stepping out to the pool area upon arrival. This astonishing sunrise-to-sunset 180-degree view, from a hilltop overlooking the game-rich shoreline, may be relished from the pool, bar, dining deck, Kukondwa Spa, fire-pit, wine-bar deck and the private verandas of all 10 premium rooms. After some years of neglect this Lake Kariba Safari Lodge has been totally revitalised to luxury levels never seen before, including a breathtaking signature infinity pool. Bumi Hills Safari Lodge re-opened in September 2009 and today offers 10 Premium and 10 Standard rooms complemented by so many awe-inspiring experiences in an authentic African eco-wilderness.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge has 20 rooms, all facing the lake (10 Premium and 10 Standard set a little behind), each with solar-heated bath, shower, overhead fan, air conditioning, mini-bar, tea-coffee station, safe and private balcony or veranda.

All rooms have a view of the lake but the 10 Premiums work the Bumi “balm” with awe-inspiring sunrise-and-sunset vistas over the lake, historic Starvation Island of Operation Noah notoriety and game-rich shoreline. Larger groups of up to 60 people may relish the adventure of additional "elephant territory" accommodation aboard luxury houseboats, moored as “floating hotels” just a two-minute transfer from the lodge.
