A 350 years old former sugar plantation on the paradise island of Antigua has been converted into a boutique hotel which is now open to those of us who want to swap the 24/7 rush hour for hummingbirds and sea island breezes of the Caribbean.
Antiguans have always known the health benefits of their beautiful island. Now with the opening of The Great House Antigua, the clean air, blue sea and fresh unpolluted tropical fruit and vegetables are bringing in new admirers.
Set among the majestic hedges of bougainvillea and sweeping palm trees at Mercers Creek, in splendid isolation from the hustle and bustle of normal life, the unique hotel offers its guests an experience to unwind and learn about the history.
Family owner, Janey Howell, said: “Throughout the centuries the Great House has been a haven and sanctuary for famous and infamous guests. Family lore recalls secret visits by the Kennedys, Greta Garbo, HRH the Princess Margaret and Humphrey Bogart amongst others”.
