The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is the spiritual and administrative headquarters of the worldwide Armenian Church. The Mother Cathedral, founded by the Descent of Christ, built by St. Gregory the Illuminator and King Trdat III, has stood as a symbol against time of the Armenian faith, nation and people. No other silhouette is so instantly recognized by Armenians the world over.

In this section, you will find the most current and relevant information on the programs and departments of the Armenian Church. The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is a blend of our past, present and future.

Preserving the past are the numerous museums, libraries and the Mother Cathedral itself, all holding a vast richness of history and treasures. The Mother See is responsible for the preservation of artifacts, both those created by the Church and those given to the church as gifts over time. Pieces from our five museums will be featured and new items will be displayed each month.

Carrying on the work of our present and future are the innumerable departments and programs of the Armenian Church. Under the grace filled leadership and guidance of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Mother See administers to social, cultural and educational programs for Armenia and the Diaspora. Communication is key to our work and our methods of communication expand daily.

Information in this section will be updated regularly, and will be expanded in the future to bring more virtual information on the grounds and structures of the monastic complex as well as additional photo galleries and special features.

Армяне обожают рассказывать о своей стране. «А вот тут вы были? Нет? Как можете уезжать, не увидев главных красот!» — готовьтесь слышать это о каждой деревушке. Местные по праву гордятся историей Армении, ее величественными горами, сладкими абрикосами и коньяком. Пусть заглянуть во все уголки не удастся, но есть места, пропустить которые просто нельзя.

Побродить по ночному городу

Одна из неизменных ереванских традиций — ­ве­черняя прогулка. Тут встречают знакомых, уз­на­ют последние новости. Особенно многолюдно у здания Армянского академического театра опе­ры и балета, который местные жители называют просто «Опера». Вокруг сплошные открытые ка­фе, есть симпатичный пруд и большая площадка, удобная для игр и катания на роликах. Вечерами здесь столь оживленно, что туристам часто кажется, что они попали на праздник. После захода солнца немало людей бывает и на пешеходном Северном проспекте, проспекте Месропа Маштоца, улицах Абовяна и Саят-Новы, да что там — во всем центре. Так что смело гуляйте до поздней ночи — ярко освещенные улицы Еревана совершенно без­опасны и атмосфера на них самая дружелюбная. К тому же к русским здесь не просто хорошо относятся — их искренне любят.
