Recoleta, one of the most elegant neighborhoods in Buenos Aires is a high class residential and commercial district.
In 1871, due to yellow fever epidemic, many wealthy families established in this area, surrounding the Cemetery.
The Cemetery of Recoleta, founded in XIXth. century by the Recoletos (a religious order) is considered one of the most famous in the world, similar to Pere Lachaise in Paris, or Arlington in Washington D.C. Important celebrities, like Evita and former presidents, writers, artists, are buried in this cemetery.
Beside the cemetery, the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, one of the oldest churchs of the city, a sample of Spanish colonial architecture, is another important attraction four tourists .
Recoleta is known as the Little Paris in Buenos Aires. Its french style residences, large gardens, squares, museums as well as the restaurants and cafes gives this area a distinctive and special profile.
