Not every eat here comes from a dorado. Palometa, a native piranha species, will absolutely crush a hopper skated across the surface, and one look at those razor-sharp teeth tells you exactly why they've got the reputation they do.

There's a lot happening above the waters of the Iberá. Over 350 bird species call this place home. Parrots, kingfishers, herons, and southern screamers among them, sharing this marsh with capybara, caimán, and the dorado we're all here for. It is truly one of the most wild places on earth, and we take our role in protecting it seriously, season after season.

A big, powerful jaw and a golden suit of armor. This is a truly beautiful specimen, and proof of exactly the kind of dorado every angler pictures before they travel across the world to chase after these beautiful fish.

The Argentine tradition of asado is one we love to share with our guests. One person tends the fire, everyone else gathers around it, and for a few hours it's a reminder to slow down and enjoy good company and great food. It's the perfect setting to recall great moments from a day on the water and discuss, in anticipation, the days ahead.

Ask any guide at Pira Lodge what's tied on first thing in the morning, and there's a good chance it's an Andino. Simple materials, a bucktail head that pushes water, and movement that dorado can't seem to leave alone. It's always a good idea to load up your fly box with a few colors of this classic pattern before you begin your journey.
