The history of Hotel Die Traube
Hotel Traube, also known as the Rosenpeckhen House
The first recorded mention of the property dates back to 1537, when it was owned by Georg Rosenpeckh. After the house had been demolished in 1617, it was rebuilt by the court painter Andreas Sterz. Subsequently, a carpenter, a mason, and a locksmith lived in the “Rosenpeckhen House.”
During the Great Fire of 1865, the building was completely destroyed by the flames. The ruins were purchased by Matthäus Jerausch, steward of Admont Abbey (Stift Admont), who rebuilt the house in its present form and established a popular inn there.
The sgraffito decoration on the façade was created by the St. Gallen artist Emmerich Millim.
In 1993, the Pichler family renovated the hotel and expanded it with an additional wing.
