Three day trips from Innsbruck, no car needed.

1. Seefeld is a train ride from Westbahnhof or Allerheiligenhöfe. Petting zoo, a lake to swim in, walks in every direction, and in winter tobogganing and cross country trails.

2. To get to Stubaital take a tram ride on the Stubaitalbahn. The Stubay has an adventure pool and a sauna for a slow day, and hiking routes start wherever you step off. In winter it turns into ski country.

3. To Achensee take a train and then either the Achenseebahn or the bus. A big clear lake to hike around and swim in, and boat trips if you would rather sit and watch.

Save the list for a day with nothing planned, and tell us which one you would do first.

An Ausgugg is a lookout. The name is doing its job here.

Mountain weather does what it wants, so here are five ideas for a grey day in Innsbruck. All of them reachable without a car.

1. Climb at the indoor centre.
2. Sit in the steam at the Art Nouveau sauna on Salurner Straße, or take the panorama sauna at Amraser Straße instead.
3. With kids, the indoor pool in the Olympisches Dorf buys you a whole afternoon.
4. The Audioversum is a small interactive museum about hearing and better than it sounds.
5. And the Swarovski Kristallwelten in Wattens are a shuttle bus ride away, with a play tower in the park.

Our favourite biking routes around Innsbruck.

The Inntalradweg runs along the river in both directions and stays flat the whole way, which means you can ride as far as you feel like and turn around whenever.

Some other routes that we suggest:

Short: up to the Thaurer Schlössl, a ruin above the valley, with the Romediwirt nearby for lunch.

Medium: east along the river into the old town of Hall, where the Münzturm is worth the climb, and the way back runs downstream.

Long: keep going past Hall to Schwaz and its silver mine, a full day out, and the train will bring you home if the legs have had enough.

Not the places on the postcards, just the five we keep going back to. 😍

Ramen at ichigo ichie when nothing else will do.
Pizza at Pizzeria ACASA, with the park next door if it is busy and a Gelateria Tomaselli Innsbruck ice cream machine for afters.
Sushi at Nami Innsbruck in the courtyard.
Kebap and pide in St. Nikolaus, at Destan or Miss Kebap.
And one_green table - vegetarisch/vegan, where a vegan menu is served at one long table and everyone eats together.

Cool Summer in IBK, part 3.

The cool-down does not stop at the door. Every bedroom has a fan, many Riedz apartments have north-facing balconies that stay out of the harsh sun and the garden faces north in natural shade. A quiet, cool place to land after a warm day.

Cool Summer in IBK, part 2. When the city warms up, go up.

Mutterer Alm has a water playground tucked into shady forest at over 1,600 m, with channels, ponds and a big wooden water wheel to splash through.

Take the tram to Mutters and the cable car up, no car needed. Cool, easy and made for a warm afternoon.

Quick update: Table tennis is cancelled this week. 🤣

Our basement hobby room has been taken over by cables, boxes and very serious-looking equipment, because the whole house is getting a tech upgrade.

The reason is a good one: We are growing, with 13 new rooms and apartments on the way. And they should have reliable wifi from night one, even when the house is full.

The sledges, by the way, are staying exactly where they are, some things are not up for debate. 🤫

Your neighbourhood for a few days. 😍

Stay with us in Hötting and most of what you need is a short walk from the door. Warm bread on the same street, a quiet café around the corner, the old town just across the river, a corner shop for the evening and a botanical garden to slow down in.
