2018 wurde das alte Hotel Karolinenhof in Floridsdorf abgerissen. Seit 2020 steht hier ein Neubau mit schlichter Fassadengestaltung.

Die Überschrift zeigt, wie wenig der Redakteur eine Ahnung hat von dem, was gleichzeitig an Kapazität spekulativ hochgezogen wurde. Da habt Ihr Eure kreative Zerstörung!

Wiens Tourismus verbucht Jahr für Jahr neue Rekordzahlen bei den Nächtigungen. Umso verwunderlicher ist es, dass in den vergangenen Jahren viele einstige Traditionshotels geschlossen wurden und nie mehr aufsperrten. Wie es mit ihnen weitergeht, ist unklar.

★★★★★ "Soll laut vielen Bewertungen ein tolles Hotel mit viel Wiener Geschichte sein. Doch bereits bei der Ankunft die große Enttäuschung. Das Hotel ist deutlich kleiner als auf den Fotos angegeben und gleicht dem Erdboden. Es war sehr schwierig den Eingang zu finden und ihn anschließen...

Generationen von FloridsdorferInnen war das traditionsreiche Hotel Karolinenhof in Jedlesee ein Begriff. Nur wenige, die jetzt dort vorbeigehen und den Trümmerhaufen des abgerissenen Gebäudes sehen, lässt sein trauriges Schicksal kalt.

The Sad Sad Story of Karolinenhof

The Karolinenhof was a four generation Family Hotel in Viennas Floridsdorf district - on the other side of the Danube, near to Old Danube, Vienna International Center and the Floridsdorf Business areas. Not far from the center, yet out in the green and near Danube. You would think an ideal location for tourism? Not really because it seemed to be a bit too far away from the center and it lacked real touristical attractions. And when dozens and dozens of new hotels sprung up in the city, gradually they would outperform and obsolesce this beautiful place. First they took away the bus groups with yield management, then - with active help of the City of Vienna - they took away the business clients.

We tried new ideas. What about an “intelligent hotel” that would give much better access to special interests and needs? What about a “Facebook Hotel” that would bring together people of same interest with the help of Social networks?

It was all too little, too late, to new - so we had to sell the place eventually and it was tored down to give place to a new appartment building. But in our minds, the Karolinenhof lives on, and we will collect memories and stories here.
