💫 56 artists, all living and working in Vienna. That alone makes this exhibition worth a closer look. 💫

„Lebt und arbeitet in Wien - Contemporary Art from Vienna“ at Kunsthalle Wien brings together very different voices, generations and perspectives on the city as it is being lived and shaped today.

More than 130 works are shown across the two Kunsthalle locations, at Karlsplatz and in the MuseumsQuartier, including many pieces created especially for the exhibition.

And Hotel Beethoven sits almost perfectly in between. 💛

Welcome to our second floor: The Secession. ✨ Vienna Secession

At Hotel Beethoven, every floor tells a different story of Vienna. On the second floor, that story begins with a group of artists who wanted to break with convention.

Founded in 1897, the Vienna Secession became a symbol of artistic freedom and a defining force of Viennese Modernism. Gustav Klimt, Kolo Moser and Josef Maria Olbrich helped shape its early years, while artists like Egon Schiele carried that spirit forward.

And the story did not end around 1900.

The Secession is still an important exhibition house for contemporary art today, welcoming artists from all over the world and constantly adding new chapters to its history.

That is exactly what inspired our second floor.

Each room is dedicated to an artist, architect, exhibition or moment connected to the Secession, from Klimt’s legendary Beethoven Frieze to contemporary artists such as Francis Alÿs and Marc Camille Chaimowicz.

Vienna Lovers Welcome. Hotel Beethoven Vienna · A place for true Vienna aficionados ❣️

201 | Francis Alÿs

Belgian artist Francis Alÿs presented Le temps du sommeil at the Vienna Secession in 2016, bringing his poetic world of painting, film and performance into its exhibition spaces.

202 | Marc Camille Chaimowicz

Marc Camille Chaimowicz transformed the Vienna Secession into his own artistic environment in 2009, combining art, interiors, carpets, patterns and furniture in an exhibition created especially for the space.

203 | Egon Schiele

In 1918, Egon Schiele became one of the stars of the Vienna Secession’s 49th exhibition, presenting his work prominently in the main hall and celebrating one of the great successes of his career.

204 | Friedrich Kiesler

Viennese-born architect and designer Friedrich Kiesler belonged to the generation that carried the experimental spirit of Viennese Modernism into the worlds of architecture, exhibition design and theatre.

In Vienna, music is never far away. At Hotel Beethoven, it’s part of the house. 🎶

Every Sunday, our Papageno Lounge turns into an intimate concert salon, with cellist and pianist Pavlo Kachnov performing Haydn, Mozart and, of course, Beethoven.

And the piano has a story of its own: our Bösendorfer once belonged to Barbara Ludwig’s mother Sissy, a wonderful pianist herself. 💛

A little chamber music, a glass of sparkling wine during the interval and an hour that feels wonderfully Viennese.

Next concerts | Sundays at 5 pm
23 & 30 August
6, 13, 20 & 27 September
4, 11, 18 & 25 October

Hotel guests are warmly invited.

When Vienna gets hot, we go looking for old-school summer freshness. 💦

Not far from the city, Thermalbad Vöslau feels like a little journey back to the golden days of Sommerfrische. The historic bath first opened in 1822 and still has that timeless summer charm today.

You’ll find a Blue Pool, the famous Green Pool filled with Vöslauer mineral water, a refreshing Swedish shower and a quiet forest pool tucked into the pine wood.

Save this for your next hot day. 🌿
