HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAWLER! 187 years old today!

DID YOU KNOW:
Colonel William Light who planned our town was in an expedition called the, "Pork and Pickle expedition" when they came through (what is now) Gawler.
Murray Street is named after Henry Dundas Murray who came to Australia from Scotland on the ship, "Orleana" .
Finniss Street was named after Boyle Travers Finniss was with Colonel Light when they
passed through the area now occupied by Gawler in 1837. They are credited with finding the bones of the dead man at the place which became known as Dead Man’s Pass.
Gawler was named after George Gawler who was the 2nd governor of South Australia after Sir John Hindmarsh.
Col. Light named the town of Lyndoch after Lord Lynedoch who had served in the Barrosa campaign which is an area near Cadiz, Spain.
