The worshipful Master of Semaphore Lodge No. 33 visited United Service Lodge No. 37 this evening for their ceremony of installation. Unfortunately their Master Elect took ill in the last few days and wasn't able to attend but the ceremony went ahead with the current Master obligating and installing the lodge officers for the coming year. The Most Worshipful Grand Master was in attendance as the Installing Master and was accompanied by the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master and the Right Worshipful Senior Grand Warden as well as the largest team of Grand Lodge officers seen for many years.
There were many visitors including the Masters of Lodge Concordia, Lodge Copernicus, Thorngate Lodge, Glenelg Lodge, The Lewis Lodge of Brighton, Lodge Leonardo Da Vinci, Auroea Australus Lodge, The Perfect Cube Lodge, Prince Alfred Collegians Lodge and The Lodge of Friendship.
A great time was had at the festive board and all went home happy and well fed :-)
We wish the Master Elect a speedy recovery so he can take his place in the masters chair as soon as possible.

Semaphore Lodge No. 33 met last night instead of their usual meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of each month to avoid a clash with the Annual Communication as well as the Worshipful Master being unavailable due to travel to Sydney on business.
The ceremony performed was the passing to the 2nd Degree of one of our brothers. The night was well attended and the ceremony went very well.
Another highlight of the night was the election of the Master Elect for the coming year who will be installed in the Master's chair in June.

The Worshipful Master of Semaphore Lodge No. 33 visited Adelaide Lodge No. 2 on Tuesday night for their annual remembrance ceremony. The ceremony performed is known as the 'Empty Chair' ceremony and dates back to 1875 when it was first performed by Masonic Lodges after the close of the American Civil War to pay tribute to those who did not return from the war. Since then many lodges have performed it on Remembrance Day and in Australia, ANZAC Day. The ceremony includes the laying of a wreath followed by all present placing a poppy at the foot of the empty chair in remembrance of those who gave their lives for our country. The flags of each service are displayed and a minutes silence is observed commencing with the playing of 'The Last Post' and concluding with the playing of 'Rouse' or 'Reveille' as it is often known. The night was very well attended with visitors and guests from many lodges and local organisations present including the Largs Bay and Semaphore RSL's, and the Australia Merchant Navy.
Other visiting Worshipful Masters in attendance were The Hope and Lewis Lodge No. 75, Lodge of Fraternity 214 (South Australia)and The Elizabeth Daytime Lodge No. 228.
