On the 20th May 2001, ten adults and six children met at the Woodside Hotel, in an attempt to get an Adelaide branch of the Leeds United Supporters Club, up and running. Everybody there was cajoled onto the committee and L.U.S.C. Adelaide branch was born. On the 17th June, we met again at the Woodside Hotel, over a yummy Sunday Roast. We could now boast 28 members and we thought that we were in go
od enough shape to hold our inaugural A.G.M. On the 25th July we met for that A.G.M. at Frostbites in the city. By the end of the night we had reached and surpassed our target of 40 members, by 19. Subsequent meetings saw us organise the L.U.S.C. banner, polo and t-shirts and for David Batty to be our patron. A Christmas raffle for fundraising was brainstormed and J.T.M. agreed to produce the newsletter. Our early committee meetings took place at the British Hotel in North Adelaide, but after our first game function on the 13th October, against Liverpool at the Earl of Aberdeen, we moved our meetings to the Earl. But although we enjoyed their hospitality as we watched the 1-1 draw, we had to pack our bags again, after the Earl did the dirty on us. So this time it was to the Arkaba for the Scum v Leeds match on 27th October. Over 60 members and guests turned up to see us play out a 1-1 draw and I realised that we had arrived! We moved our committee meetings to the Arkaba and it became our 'home ground'. But not all our activities have been match related. My favourite was the Kids Xmas party at Aldinga beach on 2nd December. Although we only had 28 people there, it was great to see the kids of the branch meet Santa and enjoy themselves swimming and playing cricket etc, etc. We also held our adults Xmas show at Lena's Italian restaurant in the city. In our first year we have also arranged a player of the year magnum of red, courtesy of Wirra Wirra winery that was presented to Rio Ferdinand pitch side on May 11!! Canβt wait for next season.
