Happy customer - DoubleCrunch Original BaoBurger & May's Dumplings Pork & Chives with May's Dumplings Chili Oil, Black Vinegar with Australian Garlic Dipping.

"We recently tried this small place in Renaissance Arcade (just off Rundle Mall), which has an unusual menu that blends Asian and American cuisine.

What caught our eye was the BaoBurger: a "double crunch" chicken fillet, with shredded lettuce, pickles, and sweet & spicy mayo, served in a large steamed bao bun.

The chicken was indeed delightfully crunchy, yet tender and juicy beneath the batter. The pickles added a tart saltiness, and the sweet and spicy sauce leaned more towards the sweet side, with a slight nuttiness (which we loved). The warm, soft bao bun also contributed a subtle sweetness, along with a pleasingly fluffy texture. In short, we loved this chicken burger and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, tasty twist on the usual formula!

There is also a spicy version available for people with stronger taste buds than my own.

We also had some steamed pork and chive dumplings (though frying is also an option), which were served in the steamer basket itself, and were dang solid spot-hitters.

But what really blew us away was the dipping sauce! They have a few options, and we went with one consisting of chilli oil, black vinegar, and garlic. It sounds so simple, but it delivered a punch of sweet and savoury flavours with a pleasantly mild heat.

We'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. For example, they offer cheeseburger dumplings (which I'd recommend getting fried rather than steamed), and we also want to try the other sauces!

The staff were super friendly, too. Recommended!
