๐๐ฆ The blue tiger butterfly is symbolic around Agnes Water & Town Of 1770. Towards the beginning of each year, we start seeing these light-as-air creatures and enjoy their company for the months that follow. They're also fabulous pollinators! The Gooreng Gooreng word for butterfly is โEuleilahโ, another significant location name around the region and the butterflies are regarded as ancestors by the Traditional Custodians. The blue tigers were also noted in the area and mentioned in Joseph Banks' journal aboard Lt James Cookโs ship the Endeavour in 1770. So the butterflies and the share similarities, in that both their stories and encounters in country are inter-woven between the Gooreng Gooreng and those who arrived later to these shores.
๐๐ฃ The local butterfly walk is a must-do experience while youโre in our Region. It starts from the Captain Cook Memorial Monument on the way up to the 1770 Headland and winds upward, reaching for the clouds just as the butterflies do. โ๏ธ๐ฅฐ
๐ถโโโ ๐ทThe blue tigers are just starting to emerge for the first time this year and local photographers Julie and Wayne Proudfoot were out and about recently capturing a few images along this beautiful walk.
๐ฆ Make sure you put the Butterfly Walk on your to-do list when planning your next visit to the Region! ๐๏ธ๐งณ๐
