We’ve been busy enjoying the peaceful summer change of pace here in Albany, and we realized it’s been a little while since we shared a peek inside our doors.

If you haven’t been down to Middleton Beach lately, the new Surf Reef has really changed the landscape.

It took over 20 years of dreaming and 70,000 tonnes of local granite but seeing that wave rolling in right in town is a huge win for Albany. It’s a clever bit of engineering that has turned into a genuinely fun local spot.

I like it as it hasn't turned into a hectic 'surf scene'- it’s just folks having a go, kids, SUPs, quick surfs before work and a relaxed vibe. A coffee from The Surfing Bean at the end of the carpark rounds it out. ☕️✨

And the bonus this stretch of beach is dedicated off-leash area. It’s the perfect spot to let our main man Anzac out for a run! I can have a quick dip and then settle back to watch Tommy surf with a coffee. Being dog-friendly ourselves at StableBASE, we love seeing more quality spaces like this for the whole family! Checked out the brand-new path across Mt Melville down to the Ring Road yesterday and it’s a total win.

The City of Albany has done a great job with this. It’s fast and smooth, but the best part is the stop at the old heritage tanks. I didn't realize they were actually a secret WWII fuel reserve - such a cool bit of history to have right on the trail.

The mix of the old tanks, harbour views, and great seating makes it a really unique ride.

Our Annual Visitor!
Every year, we get a special guest dropping by to stableBASE! - a local southern heath monitor!! These fascinating creatures are up to 1.5 m long, blackish with yellow spots, and a beautifully banded tail, these lizards are day-time explorers of our woodlands and coastal heath.

Next time you’re enjoying your stay at stableBASE, keep an eye out—you might just spot this impressive local resident looking for a drink or a sun-soaked spot to relax. 🏡🌞

They mostly hunt insects and small reptiles, and fun fact—they lay their eggs in burrows and leave them to incubate!

Let’s celebrate the amazing creatures that call Albany home! 💛

Thrilled to share, we’ve just completed a major upgrade to our solar! A brand-new PV & battery system that now powers our all-electric home & accommodation including charging for electric vehicles.

This means your stay at stableBASE is now largely off grid. Powered by sunshine, supplied by rainwater, and fully endorsed by the local frog community, who seem to think Albany rain is a VIP event!

Walk the Bibbulmun Track!
Just around the corner from stableBASE - a super easy coastal section of the track & awesome wow factor scenery. We headed out today from the Sandpatch Stairs towards the Sandpatch campsite & down to Little Grove. Views back to the windmills were stunning, big pod of surfing dolphins, native clematis flowering & vibrating bushes of chattering honeyeaters! Anzac & his humans were very happy!! Hope everyone is doing well & getting amongst it. 😍
