Spring has arrived in Alice, the weather is warming up and the wildflowers are in abundance after the lovely August rains.

Nothing beats the natural flower displays out on the West and East MacDonnell Ranges, featuring rugged ridgelines, red quartzite cliffs and ancient rock formations.
Perfect day trips for hiking and exploring our beautiful region. Starting with a morning drive along one of my favourite drives in Australia, the west Macs known as Tjoritja. 160km long mountain range renowned for dramatic gorges, waterholes and Aboriginal cultural significance. Followed by a coffee at the stunning Ormiston Gorge (cafe open 10am-4pm until October), a favourite with incredible hiking, views and even a swim.

For the more adventurous head further to Redbank Gorge and Mt Sonder for views that make you feel like you are in another world.

Next moving along to Ellery Creek Big Hole for your picnic lunch (there are great bakeries in town before you leave) and a dip in the refreshing water. Heading back to Alice Springs there is also Standley Chasm and Simpson Gap to stop at.

For dinner head for a cold b**r and pizza at Alice Springs Brewing Co, local b**rs, a b**r garden and great vibes.

During their 37 years owning and operating BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park, Brendan Heenan & family raised thousands of dollars for the Royal Flying Doctor Service and other local charities. Now they are continuing the fund-raising tradition at Wintersun Cabin & Caravan Park.

Wow what a fantastic week we had with all the Finke legends and support crews.
Finke Desert Race being one of the most difficult offroad courses in one of the most remote places in the world, lived up to its expectations for its 50th year in 2026.

Thank you everyone for staying with us at Wintersun Cabin and Caravan Park, it was an absolute pleasure hosting and meeting you all. Well done!!

Shout out to this lovely lady, Keri Thurley, from Launceston, Tasmania, who in her own words "survived Finke" and has the badge to prove it. We are so proud of this legend and a lovely lady as well.

We hope to see you all back next year. Travel home safe!
