Before kids, we use to have kid goats. They are the most adorable animals but quick to escape when given the chance. The first week we got goats, they escaped into our neighbour’s vast disused apple orchard. The trees were laden with apples and our newly acquired goats were almost impossible to entice home . Many weeks later, Pete eventually caught our three goats with days of chasing and stalking to our neighbour’s amusement.The goats inspired me to learn to spin their fleece and felt it too. Now days, we have sheep grazing our paddocks, they keep the grass down and rarely escape into our garden or the neighbours.

I was thrilled to see my slow growing female Creeping Strawberry Pine (Microcachrys tetragona) produce berries for the first time in 10 years. It is native to mountainous areas of Tasmania. The small berries are edible but supposedly lack flavour. Yet to taste one but good to know I can.

The blanket chestbox at Getndare travelled from the Netherlands in 1954 holding my grandparents worldly possessions. The family were on a migration ship called Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. The voyage took 30 days and sailed via Fremantle and then Melbourne where they settled in surrounding suburbs.
